Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

Pet peeve: When someone, teachers, parents, etc. ask if something is "going around". Umm... We have 500 students, something is ALWAYS going around.

That's what I tell everyone too. There is always a stomach bug or some kind of virus or something going around. It just spreads easier in the winter because we're all inside and around each other more due to the cold temps outside.

Just had a drama king come in stating he needed to call his mom to stay close to home because he had a fever. He said his teacher said he felt warm. Temp 36.5C, and he then told me he had a fever earlier in the week. Teacher comes in stating he told her he had a fever this morning. Drama should remain on the stage, which is where I like it. BTW, going to see Willy Wonka tonight with my son, part of his months long Christmas present of theater.

I kind of miss not doing attendance for this exact reason. I get asked all the time if this or that is "going through the school" and I honestly don't know why students are not in school, I can only go by my visits.

You know, it would probably be a curse if I was actually informed of every call in. I just wish they would clue me in when they see the ones who HAVE been sick back in my office the same week. Especially the little ones who don't usually complain.

Had a seventh grader come in yesterday looking really rough, chills and just plain ill. She had to be forced into my office. C'mon now, don't infect your whole class. I told her she was going home even if she had no fever since she was cooking up. Go from one extreme to the other.

it is a curse lol

I thankfully don't need to input attendance, but our secretary forwards the voicemails of any of the ill ones to my phone for me to listen to in case there are any i need to track (influenza, strep etc). But just listening to parents ramble on sometimes on the voicemail is just a huge time suck

Sent a little one home with 103.5F yesterday afternoon. Reminded the parents of our policy (fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications). Parents nodded their heads in agreement and said "Ok, so no school for us tomorrow!"

Guess who cruised in today with puffy, red eyes and nose?

The parents are not even smart enough to tell their kid, do not go anywhere near the nurse!!!

And the brother went around to everyone saying "me and my sister got Motrin this morning so we wouldn't have fevers anymore!" ?

Of course they did BECAUSE THE KIDS ALWAYS TELL US.

The last "I have a fever and mommy gave me medicine" that I had was a kinder who volunteered this information during his class' morning meeting. He neglected to mention that it was on SATURDAY and it was currently TUESDAY. Teacher was still freaking out?

Food stuck behind a kid's front tooth and I was called to the frontlines. Food. Behind. A. Tooth. Not like there was a hole in the tooth or infection surrounding the tooth, just the kind of stuck that happens when you bite into fresh bread kind of stuck...

I wish you could see my face right now. ?‍♀️

I had a kinder dragged into my office once because he had 'a potato chip stuck between his teeth'. He refused to let me try to dislodge it and the teacher's aide who brought him just stood there like a bump on a log until I told her there wasn't much I could do unless he wanted to cooperate. The vice principal reamed me that afternoon for 'not being patient' and said that the aide 'was a nurse too and got it out with no problem'.

I told him that if she WAS in fact a nurse (she was a med tech), she should know that this was not a reason to visit the health room and since she was so good, she should have tried to handle it her own self. I refuse to try and prize anyone's mouth open when they don't want me to and then have to deal with a parent screaming that I assaulted their baby.

Yeah, that didn't go much further. The secretary had known me since I was a baby and I heard her tell VP as I walked out, "Mr So-and-so, trust me when I say, let it go. You will NOT win an argument with her. He didn't need to be in the health room anyway."

I loved my kiddos there but the politics in that school and who was in with who just killed that job for me.
