Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

3rd grader "I have dried glue all over my hands"

me: Why?

3rd: "I was doing a craft"

me: Did you wash your hands?

3rd: "No! (looking at me like this was an outrageous suggestion) My teacher said you would fix it!"

me: I won't but you can. Go wash your hands

And through some divine intervention, but surely not handwashing, the glue was gone!

Praise the Lort! Soap and water fixes most things.

This may already be in here somewhere but today, today I'm so irritated that teachers feel anything of mine is free reign. I don't mind sharing my vaseline or lotion in a pinch but if you need it every day, buy your own, you're an adult! I had an aide to request to have one of my chapsticks. I said those are for the kids who can't afford one with really bad chapped lips so she declined. They were always asking for pain med for headaches so the principal bought some to put in the supply closet for teachers because I said I can't hand them out. Then she bought antacids. Then a teacher didn't have any feminine hygeine supplies and asked me for a tampon that I don't have because we only go to 5th grade and the principal told me we (meaning me) needed to get some for the staff. I'm not using my nursing money for the staff-I barely have enough to cover my bandaids and thermometer covers for the year! So I have never gotten any. I had a teacher the other day ask me for a cough drop. I found one in my purse out of the goodness of my heart and didn't even get a thank you! If I have to search through my own purse to give you something that's not required, I'm gonna need a thank you! I guess it's the same as them cutting through my office all day saying they are sorry but they keep doing it anyway. So no, you really aren't sorry. Sigh!! Ok I feel better! LOL!

Had a kid come in complaining of shoulder pain that started "earlier" from recess. Being 0900 and 20 degrees I inquired further.

Apparently "earlier" was August. AUGUST. Go back to class, kid.

Symptoms are always "just now" or 7 years old never in between......

Or "just after science." Uh yeah I'm not looking up your schedule. What time?

One kid came up and said "I just really think I need to go home after recess..." This was three hours before recess. Nope.

We have a microwave and fridge in our office that we bought with our own money, in fact everything from our office comes out of our pocket, band aids, stock meds, everything. The staff microwave is huge and doesn't work well and gets a line, so some of the staff has found ours. No problem, but we are kind of forgotten about and there are some staff that never acknowledge us, but now those that use it come in without even saying hi. I normally just wait and say hi on their way out.

Had a Kinder sent down earlier this morning for a temp check. No reason why. Kiddo denied feeling bad. Temp was normal. Sent him back to class. Fast forward to about 30 mins ago and same kiddo is sent back due to vomiting. As he's sitting up here, New Office Lady casually states "oh, well you know, either him or his brother were throwing up earlier this week". Uh. No, New Office Lady, I did NOT know that. That would require someone to actually tell me these things. Made the comment to our veteran office lady about wishing there was a way for me to be informed of things like this because it would vastly change my assessments. She responded with "well I don't know how it would work. With the 100's of calls we get, it would be impossible to let you know about all of the sick kids". Uh, what? First of all, we have like 250-ish kids on this campus. If we're receiving "100's of calls" about sick kids, our attendance rate would be such that our school would have to be closed due to illness. Secondly, if you know of a kid that was vomiting earlier in the week and you see them in the office at the beginning of the day, why would you NOT say something to the nurse at that point.

C'mon now.

I had a 5th grade girl bring me a used tampon today because she thought it "smelled funny" and was concerned there was something wrong with her.

OH MY GOSH!? You cannot make this stuff up! Wow!!!

I had a teacher come and let me know that she had finally "put a stop" to the group of kids from her class who were coming in droves for cough drops, warm packs, etc.... Um, over half of them were sent down BY THE TEACHER for temp checks because they "looked flush".

So, your kid has been having chest pain x 3 weeks and has an appointment set up for 4:00 today with the pediatrician - and you want me to pull her out of class at 1:30 to assess her before she goes. I will do that but my findings will still be she needs to keep her appointment and you need to go ahead and shell out that copay for her to get a cardiac workup. C'MON NOW!!!!!
