I felt a bit like Clark Griswold when I opened my holiday gift from my administration... it was a gift card to Amazon (OK, better than nothing, although I did tell my husband if it was anything less than $50, I'd have to quit. It was $50 - luck for them LOL) and a card that was e-signed by the leadership team. As in, they had the cards mass printed for the entire faculty (there are only like 40 of us...) with their signatures printed in the cards. That stung a bit.
Anyway, every year at the holidays, us school nurses chuckle and commiserate as our teacher friends carry full arms of holiday gifts out to their car each afternoon, while we might get one or two cards or appreciation gifts. I felt like this was especially bad.
What were your best and worst holiday gifts over the years?
I can't say I got anything from the administration (or any other entity that was employed by the school district). What always surprises me is the thanks (and consideration) extended me by the families of the students I deal with. I don't expect it, but it's heartwarming when it comes.
Ha! I'm reading this and thinking "Admin gives you guys gifts?!"
The private school I work at usually holds a holiday party with a gigantic buffet and an open bar. There's always a commemorative drink glass of some kind and a bottle of prosecco from the parents' group for everyone. They also raffle off a bunch of fancy gift baskets. Since we couldn't gather this year, they gave us each $100 cash, a pint glass, a couple of chocolates, and the bottle of prosecco... Not complaining.
I usually get something small from a few of the parents, but its looking like diddly squat this year since we've been remote since before turkey day.

I'm just speechless. I do love my school, but this was so unexpected and also very much appreciated.
Jen, you so deserve the recognition from all you have posted @ AN re your COVID efforts along with the wisdom shared with hundreds of our allnurses members.
Kudos to your school admin team!

The hospital that I work at is one of the largest systems in my state. We've gotten nothing at all for the last four years. They cater a meal, but our acuity is so abnormally high that I couldn't even step away long enough to go get my free breakfast. Oh well.

I feel pretty blessed. I always have an armful or two at Christmas and Nurses day. We are a tight knit community here.
