Chemistry

I need to take Chemistry and I want to get it done so I can apply to the program. I was thinking about taking it over the summer, but I have had people tell me that it is too difficult and that I should wait until the fall to take it. I wanted to get your opinions about what you think I should do.

This is the only class that I need to get on the waiting list.

If you feel capable of doing the work. Why not? Everything is tough. I didn't think it was too bad. Plus it will put you closer to your goal of going to NS.

I have never taken any kind of Chemistry class, how difficult is it? I would be taking regular intro chem.

I'd say if you do take it STUDYSTUDYSTUDY! Ask questions! Don't miss any class or labs! I took a Chem 151 class last semester and got a B. I hadn't taken any chem since high school which was many many years ago. Good luck :)

Chem is a beast. Although I got an A in it, I dont think I would take it in the summer. But since you are on a wait list I am guessing you are going for Pass/Fail and not an A. If thats the case, go for it. But if you are aiming for an A, its extremely hard to get in a normal semester and in the summer I would say its borderline impossiable. And I am saying this as a student that gets A's with little studying, not braging, I just want to give you a measure to the difficulty that is Chem.

Yeah, I believe all I have to get in Chem is a C. Which I am not sure if that is possible in the summer.

How long is your summer session?

I would deff take it in the fall. i dont mean to scare you or anything but i had to hire 3 tutors. i am a 4.0 student and i was overwhelmed with the new concept of chemistry. and i took it in the fall. i can only imagine the pain someone would be in to take it in the summer. Luckily i passed with a B, which was luck, b/c i ended up guesses on 90% of the final and passed. there were people in my class who were getting a's on all of their tests but when they took the final they ended up with a c. Anyway, it can also be the teacher you take which makes it tought.

I would take it in the summer if you are guarenteed to pass. In other words the teacher has to be the best!

I would suggest taking Chemistry during the fall, its a hard class to take in a regular semester , i couldnt imagine taking it during the summer. However if your good at math, balancing equations, and understanding many different concepts than go for it. Me personally I struggled in the class and almost dropped it, but I studyed hard and pulled off a (B). Goodluck!

How long is your summer session?

It is 8 weeks long.

The classes at my university are 6 weeks long, so I think chemistry in 8 weeks is very doable, especially if that is the only class you'll be taking. Good luck with whatever you decide!

OP, you mentioned that you are trying to get on a wait list, which would lead me to believe that your school is not competitive (grade-wise).

If that is the case, I would definitely recommend taking the 8 week class in the summer, if that will indeed put your name on the wait list one semester early!

ya but remember...in a summer session they only teach what you need for test....no fluff in between...so it is doable..
