I know of a couple sites, like textbook.com, but do you know of other online sites that sell textbooks at cheap prices?
half.com is where I get most of my books from. I believe that it's linked with ebay. I find that the books are in the exact or better condition than described and the prices are really good. I once had to return a book and that went very smoothly. When using half.com I try to look at the person's profile and see how many good reviews verses bad reviews there are and some of the bad reviews aren't really that bad. I hope this helps.
I've also bought off of textbooksrus.com. I found out that international editions are the SAME ONES that are sold here in the US, just with different ISBN number and color might be spelled colour. Other than that, it's the same. I just bought a BRAND NEW math book for $50.00, the bookstore wanted $215.00 for it. Same book, just different ISBN.
hey everyone!! i went onto a couple of the sites that were suggested and am feeling a little shocked and excited. i found the textbook i need on a few of the sites (textbooksrus.com, abebooks.com and alibris.com) for as little as $1.00!!! what!!??!! that doesn't sound right, does it...am i imagining it? is this too good to be true?!! can someone please help before i place an order.... i am so afraid of getting ripped off!!!
Definitely look for the previous edition of books...you will save so much money!!! It didn't take me too long to figure that out. Also...get a feel for the teacher first, especially if it's for nursing pre-reqs...when I took micro-biology I bought the book on amazon, and waited for a few weeks and realized I wouldn't need it because the teacher gave great powerpoint handouts...so I returned it, unopened, and saved $125. I always buy the previous edition from whatever the professor has on the syllabus...it's usually only off by a few pages. I took env. science as an elective and the book was going for $150 new, I got it for like $10 on amazon and it was just the previous edition but in brand new shape.
Usually I look at the book store and write down all of the names and prices and then buy online and compare to see how much I saved...it always makes me feel so good! LOL $75 in books for a semester, compared to $500
Textbook editions are such a scam! Like someone else said on here, it's just a way to make sure they get sales.
Check out bigwords.com. It's a search engine that compares the prices of all the major online retail and rental sites for books, and will tell you the cheapest options including shipping! If you have multiple books that you need, it will tell you the cheapest way to get them from (it'll be from multiple sites), or if you want them all from one place, it'll find the cheapest place you can get them all. Sites it searches include Abebooks, Chegg, rentatext, Amazon and many others.
thank you sooo much for this post, wannabe an rn!! because of this post i just ordered the text and lab manual i need from alibris.com for $21.89 and mind you $17.00 of that is shipping!! i saved 98% on each book!! normally i get my books from the used section of the campus bookstore, so i am happy i saw this thread in time to save almost $150.00! keeping my fingers crossed the books i get are in ok condition. according to the descriptions they should be ...they are used and i am ok with a little high lighting, i just don't want pages torn out. i was worried because i ordered the past edition but when i got to class that's the edition the teacher was using!! the only thing is i have two weeks of class without a text... but thankfully we have amazing power points i can refer to in the mean time!!!

I would recommend ebay but make sure to always check the seller's rating and shipping cost. I've bought a lot of things off ebay for a good price and have had good experiences. I also recommend buying an older edition they can be soooo cheap compared to the new edition. My pharm book was 55 for the new edition at the cheapest but I paid $16 including shipping for the older edition.
