Cheap textbook sites?

Published

I know of a couple sites, like textbook.com, but do you know of other online sites that sell textbooks at cheap prices?

hey everyone!! i went onto a couple of the sites that were suggested and am feeling a little shocked and excited. i found the textbook i need on a few of the sites (textbooksrus.com, abebooks.com and alibris.com) for as little as $1.00!!! what!!??!! that doesn't sound right, does it...am i imagining it? is this too good to be true?!! can someone please help before i place an order.... i am so afraid of getting ripped off!!! ;)

i've purchased all of my textbooks for the past year from alibris and have never had a problem. just be sure to read the description carefully (and maybe even go to the individual seller's website to see what their definitions actually mean- you may not get a cd and will pretty much never get a web code.) i've actually been buying from alibris and abebooks for about 12 years now and have always been happy. good luck!!!

thank you sooo much for this post, wannabe an rn!! because of this post i just ordered the text and lab manual i need from alibris.com for $21.89 and mind you $17.00 of that is shipping!! i saved 98% on each book!! normally i get my books from the used section of the campus bookstore, so i am happy i saw this thread in time to save almost $150.00! keeping my fingers crossed the books i get are in ok condition. according to the descriptions they should be ...they are used and i am ok with a little high lighting, i just don't want pages torn out. i was worried because i ordered the past edition but when i got to class that's the edition the teacher was using!! the only thing is i have two weeks of class without a text... but thankfully we have amazing power points i can refer to in the mean time!!!

i see i posted too late and you already bought a book...just wanted to add that i hope you did a coupon search, because retailmenot and couponcabin always have valid codes, and i also forgot that one time i did get a book ($2) that looked perfect (as in brand new even though it was listed as used) and was guaranteed to have all pages intact, and there was a whole chapter missing. no biggie- it was my nutrition book and just the standard digestion info- and the company refunded me all of my money, shippinng, book cost, etc.

Thanks so much for your reply, Kimberlina! I ordered my books through Alibris with Big World Books. They seem to be on the up and up. That company had five stars and the descriptions of the books sounds ok. I did recieve a coupon from Alibris when I registered but it was only good if I spent $30...and I only needed to spend $3!! I can't believe I got my books that cheap! That is the only place I'll be getting my books from now on. I just wish I had known about this website before I spent $300 for all my other text books!! What is the longest you had to wait for your books? I ordered them yesterday and May 23 is my delivered by date.

Hmmmm...my longest wait was probably 10 or 11 days, and that was coming from the west coast (I'm on the east.) Some books come REALLY fast. I had to do expedited shipping on a book after I ordered the wrong one, and it was still WAY cheaper than buying any other place. My micro book is def. more beat up than any other books I've gotten there, but it is still infinitely usable, and I saved about $118. Go, me!

I used a $1 coupon on a .99 book last week (micro study guide maybe?) and only had to pay shipping. In the past, I've been known to split my orders up (they were coming from different sellers anyway, so the shipping cost was the same no matter what) to take advantage of a coupon on each order. Like I said, definitely check out couponcabin and retailmenot for alibris coupon codes- they are generally about 10% off, but the $1 ones usually don't have a minimum, and hey, $1 and a coupon will buy me an iced coffee at Dunkin Donuts, so its worth a couple seconds of my time to find a code.

thanks again...i got my books on wednesday...a week after i ordered them and they were in perfect condition!! i will definately use your advise about the coupons!! so glad i saw this thread! :lol2:
