CCBC, Fall 2011 Applicants =)

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello Everyone,

Here we go again! This is my second time applying to CCBC's nursing program. I look forward to chatting with everyone as we wait for the GOOD news! I believe things happen for a reason! I have good faith that Fall 2011 is going to be my turn for acceptance. I guess we will see if I am right.

For anyone who was not accepted this Spring, we can be a great support system for each other :).

GOOD LUCK!!!

Gaelros- I am currently taking ENGL 102 and Nutrition. I completed all my prereqs last semester. Unfortunately they wouldn't transfer in my other English class, so I'm having to repeat it! I love nutrition- I am learning a lot about the misconceptions the media feeds us about our diets. Good luck to you!

Hey All:

We have six more weeks until our Fundementals class is finished. It is really tough!

At this point, don't worry about your GPA or your TEAS. The test is over, and you can't change your admitting grades. Just relax, wrap up your classes, and wait until may. We applied last september, and we didn't get an answer until november! The insanity, waiting is so tough!

In the meantime, I would strongly recommend for you to brush up on your AP II and Micro if you are not taking these classes right now. A lot of the topics require you to recall your bio knowledge. Especially when you come to certain topics like the aging process, if you don't know what or have a hard time recalling stuff like GFR or CO = SV X HR, you will have a very, very, very hard time understanding the material, and you will have to review back.

I hope you all succeed and keep pushing forward. If there are other places that still have their application dates open, I would apply there as a back up. It may not be what you want, or too expensive, but a RN is an RN!!! Don't believe people who say BCCC or Hopkins get hired more than other programs, because I know students from almost every program who had a tough time in the job market. By the time we graduate, it should have picked up. Also, some say that BSN nurses are preferred these days, fyi.

I wish you all the best of luck. Hope to see you in the fall!

Adina

Thank you so much for taking the time to post that information. it is nice to hear from someone already in the program who is willing to give good advice. It is always so strange to hear about a tight job market for nurses when all you hear about is the nursing shortage. I come from a family of nurses who have fortunately been gainfully employed, but have suffered though some shortage times by beiung overworked and underpaid. Sounds fun, eh?

I hear what you are saying about needing a BSN. If someone in Maryland offers an evening BSN program that does not require prior patient experience or an RN, I would jump on it. No such luck yet. I am a career changer but not yet willling to give up the good day job in such a market. An online program for my initial training seemed the wrong route to take, I prefer to study with others face to face....at least initially. I guess there is not a lot of demand yet, or the costs are prohibitive for an evening/weekend BSN. Wonder if anyone else out there would have tried such a program?

Anyhow. Thanks again- we love to hear good advice from current students!

Stevenson University has an evening/ weekend BSN program. I work for GBMC and see the evening/ weekend students all the time. You may want to check them out.

Thank you Adina! Great info!!!

Just need to vent! I hate this wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to offer some encouragement. I am currently in the nursing program at Catonsiville and I am due to graduate in December. I know a few people in my class who got in the nursing program with a 3.1 and 2.9 gpa's so there is always hope. In the meantime it may not be a bad idea to take some prerequisites this summer for your BSN's that way even if you don't get in you have the opportunity to apply for more programs. When I applied it took about 5 weeks to get a acceptance letter. I applied in September and I heard back by the end of October. I wish you all the very best1

BABYJADE,

Thanks for the encouragement! I applied this spring and didn't make the cut. I took off last fall semester and I should have a least taken one class towards BSN. I am now taking 2 BSN prerequisites this semester. Is there anyone in your program that had to apply 2 and 3 times before acceptance?

Yes. I know of at least 4 people in my class who did not get accepted the first time they applied. A couple of them had to retake a class in order to obtain a higher grade before they were accepted. I just do not want you guys to be discouraged because sometimes you may not get in the first time you apply for a variety of reason. However if you have any C's in a class if at all possible retake the class and try to get a higher grade to increase your chance of being accepted. If you cant retake the class that is ok. I have a friend who is in the program with me and she was accepted into the program although she had a C in both A&P II and Microbiology.

Thanks for the info:redbeathe

Applied to Night/Weekend program for Fall 11. Still finishing BIOL 230, PSYC 103 and MATH 153. My pink card says mid-may. The wait is killing me also. Hard to plan when your not sure what exactly gets you in. Guess we'll find out eventually. Good Luck to everyone. We all know hard hard it is.

Specializes in Operating Room.

thank you for the encouragement, babyjade06! :-) i have a c in a&p ii and i have a c from the first time i took micro, so i'm currently taking it again in hopes of pulling a better grade. i currently have an a so i have high hopes that everything will work out in terms of grading. i'm hoping that they'll give me a contingent acceptance - that as long as i replace the c in micro with at least a b (or even an a), that i'll be accepted. according to gwen, they won't look at the fact that i'm taking the course again, that they'll use my first grade, but i'd like to think they'd give me a chance regardless - kind of like an ultimatum.

also, my pink card said mid-may as well. hopefully it'll come earlier! the wait is dreadful.

i know of a quite a few people who got into the program even though gwen told them they should not even apply until they replaced their c's with a higher grade. do not let her discourage you! my friend who i was talking about in a previous post who received a c in both a&p ii and microbiology the first time she took them, was currently re-enrolled in microbiology to replace her c and she was still was accepted into the program. she didnt even take most of her pre-requisites at ccbc so i believe you guys should just hang in there. i know the wait can be excrutiating but i doubt if you will really wait til mid-may. i'm sure you guys will hear something before then. i hope all of you on hear get in nursing school !:heartbeat
