I am a psychiatric nursing student and I will graduate in four months I wanted to know if anyone has taken the nclex and any tips you could give me to pass the first time
what to study that would be nice
actually I would like to know the set of the test like kind of what it looks like
1. Get the used version of the kaplan content book = READ IT itll take you 1 full week to go through it. write down notes of stuff you will forget and or dont know.
2. the hurst review its actually ONLINE for free just type in hurst mp3 and you will find links. LISTEN to those.
3. if you purchased kaplan complete the question trainers aim for 56+ even though kaplan says 60+, i have known people who have gotten below 60 and aced it. IF you cannot afford the kaplan q, trainers, that too is online you just have to google it kaplan question trainers pdf and manually take the test (pen and paper)
4. Get the 21 day NCSBN - NOW...this webstie has questions, I DID NOT recommend my friend do the questions but just become familiarized with the content. and it should take you less than 21 days to complete if you just go through a few sections a day. theyre decent reads. AGAIN, what you dont remember PRINT IT or copy paste it.
5. if you have time fr your NCSBN take questions
and last but not least
6 = REVIEW YOUR NOTES YOU MADE DURING KAPLAN + NCSBN + questions you may have gotten wrong. IF you did poorly on a q. trainer, RE-DO the q. trainer.
the nclex looks EXACTLY LIEK KAPLAN same color and everything

But she's not taking the NCLEX, she's taking that California Psychiatric Technician Exam. That seems like a bit of overkill for a different exam.
It concerns me that you don't what a psychiatric technician student if you are not please allow me to direct you to google. If I was a nursing student doing a clinical rotation in psych I would have stated so..How am I suppose to know what out Nclex looks like if I have never taken it ??? To answer your question your ignorance did indeed offend me
Easy there....YOU made the mistake, not the person you are nastily responding to! YOU said "I am a psychiatric nursing student"...YOUR words. One would think that since it was your mistake, you wouldn't come out with guns blazing, y'know?
YOUR post (your second in what I imagine might be a short shelf-life here) offends ME. Ignorance isn't SnurseKylam's problem, it's yours.
You don't take the NCLEX as a PT candidate you take the California Psychiatric Technician Licensure ExaminationA little googling and I found the candidate bulletin for the psychiatric technician examination for CA:
It doesn't make sense to take the NCLEX-PN as you are not eligible or educated to pass the exam.
You are likely eligible to use this review site: Psychiatric Technician Review Exam from the CA association of psychiatric technicians.
Here it is folks...this poster took out the time and effort to Google the correct response for the OP. This shows kindness, consideration, and the heart of a real nurse. Big karma points on this one.
The OP couldn't or didn't know how to search the subject and came to this site for help. Let me say it again...for help. We all need help now and than. Hopefully this can inspire others on this site to take the compassionate high road when dealing with others who aren't as skillful at research as some of us are.
OP; JBN (JustBeachyNurse) was able to get all that info with a Google (or other search engine) search by typing just the facts on the search line and click. Leave out the, a's, I's, the, etc...
Example: with your search I would have put CA, psych tech exam, review...click and you get mountains of choices between multiple reviews of the exams to the licensing process to MT.SAC. student interaction page, which I take is a support group of some type for you folks (on search line put mt sac, student interaction page if you want to go to it). If it's a different school just type in that one instead of mt sac. You came to the correct site to ask opinions on the NLCEX question.
I know you didn't come to this site to ask how to research an item but I threw that in for the benefit of all who are just starting out in the world of research and study.
Aloha and best of everything to you and yours
YOU said "I am a psychiatric nursing student"...YOUR words.
It is also against the site's terms of service to represent oneself as a nurse or nursing student when that is not the case. However, I appreciate the original poster for returning to clarify the fact that she is a psychiatric tech student, not a nursing student.

It concerns me that you don't what a psychiatric technician student if you are not please allow me to direct you to google. In your opening post, you stated that you are psychiatric nursing student. A psychiatric technician student is not a nursing student so I suppose I was on the money when I decided your post raised suspicion pertaining to your status as a nursing student.
It is well within your prerogative to be offended and direct me to Google but at the same time here's mine: go Google Jedi mind tricks and Jean Grey, I am not well versed with mind reading so I would not know how to read your mind to know that was what you meant. Frankly, your opening post was lacking in information but that is ok, as we were able to get clarification now.
Now back to the question on hand, I've stated what the nclex looks like in my previous post and I know because I'm a nursing student who has been practicing from my nclex style exams and from nclex prep books. For your psychiatric technician exam, I have no clue as I am not a psychiatric technician student nor have I taken it before.
A psych tech has a completely different scope of practice than a psychiatric nurse so I would imagine using the nclex, even if it is specifically the psych part, would not be optimal in studying.
I answered this post with my limited resources and based on the information you provided, so a thumbs up would be greatly appreciated :) and in case you were wondering, this post was written with 40% snark, 20% humor, and 20% amusement. :)
