Can I lose my license???

Published

I have been going through some really stressful times - family wise. I was at work and I just felt lousy and dehydrated, so I gave myself a saline iv. I got caught, got fired and now they say they are going to report me to nc bon for practicing medicine without a license?????

I know of someone else who had done this. It was to "cure" their hangover while at work. I'm guessing that while those details were left out, this was a similar situation.

I get the feeling this may have hit too close to home. I don't think we'll see OP again.

Thanks for that comment. It really helped. Is there anyone else out there who can actually help me without being judgmental about a decision I made, stupid or not, after weeks of not sleeping more than four hours a night

So, not only do you have poor judgement, you have a poor attitude. I'm not sure whether you deserve to lose your license over such a stupid decision, but getting fired seems like a deserved consequence. Perhaps a lawyer could help you navigate the BON.

Honestly, this whole thread is so "Nurse Jackie", right?

George Clooney did it on ER's first episode.

As a doctor, at least he can't be charged with practicing medicine without a license. ;)

We're being punked, right? You definitely deserved to be fired if this is true, maybe stripped of your license too. You need an order to start an IV on someone right? Did you have an order? I'm guessing no. I can't even imagine starting a line on myself. Can't wait to read on and see where this train wreck derails!

Wasn't that a banana bag for a hangover?

No kidding, then we might be reading about self-administered CIA-style "rectal rehydration."

Technically, Anthony Edwards' character did it to Dr. Ross. And since Dr. Greene was a doctor, he had the authority to order an IV. :) Early episodes of ER were the best.

I think I saw this on an episode of House.

I was going to formulate a serious reply here... But no...
