maybe its just me, but i get very bothered when someone says "i'm a nurse," and their not, their a cna, or nurse aid, or have no schooling at all and just worked their way up in a clinic. i work at a local emergency clinic 30 hours a week to gain experience in my field, and i just got accepted in ns, and i'v worked darn hard to get here! and i find it bothersome when one of the girls at work say "i'm the nurse" or something along those lines...i feel that when i graduate and pass my nclex that, only then, will i be able to say "i'm a nurse." the other day my doctor said "jamie, will you get a nurse?" i said "im sorry doc, i dont think we have any of those working here." he actually laughed and said "you know what i mean"......but is this just me?????
Do you mean that I can't practice medicine?? Prescribe scripts, treatments or to precept residents or interns? Darn, that broke my fantasy... (kidding of course)
Sure you can. Just like I can. And what would you like for your meal, here in jail. I understand the cheese sandwiches are pretty good.

(Thumping on chest like Tarzan)
I am Nurse (wannabe) hear me ROAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Recent experiences:
At a new optometrist's office, I started out with testing (peripheral vision, etc., and a basline exam. As she was making notes on the chart, I asked if she were the doctor.
"No, I am the assistant."
"The assistant doctor? (never heard of on) "No, I assist the doctors but I will be going to nursing school in the fall."
Oh, so that gives you credentials to ask about my physical history, medication histery, family history, etc.?
At a new PCP, I was being checked for recovery from pneumonia. A woman comes in and sets up a breathing treatment. I ask her if she is a nurse/an MA? No, but she has worked there for 5 years and will be going to nursing school in the fall!
She is also the one who did office paperwork, chatted me up in the waiting room about my health and encouraged me to turn on the TV because "The View" was starting.
Whatever happened to name tags? I guess hers would have been "Whatever the Dr. Wants me to do"
Megan, former BSN
:down:and i was an lpn with license and all, but i was forced to go on the inactive status because i'm too sick to work.maybe its just me, but i get very bothered when someone says "i'm a nurse," and their not, their a cna, or nurse aid, or have no schooling at all and just worked their way up in a clinic. i work at a local emergency clinic 30 hours a week to gain experience in my field, and i just got accepted in ns, and i'v worked darn hard to get here! and i find it bothersome when one of the girls at work say "i'm the nurse" or something along those lines...i feel that when i graduate and pass my nclex that, only then, will i be able to say "i'm a nurse." the other day my doctor said "jamie, will you get a nurse?" i said "im sorry doc, i dont think we have any of those working here." he actually laughed and said "you know what i mean"......but is this just me?????
"Former" BSN?
Well, she lists herself as a nursing student.
I don't see the problem with the assistant compiling pt. histories, they aren't going to interpret them or prescribe.
Anyone can learn to set up treatments. Families do it all the time.
I think this thread has far too many people who are nitpicking.
If someone leads the public to believe they are an LPN or an RN then yes they can be prosecuted.
But what would they have done with Florence? No education or exams to qualify her as a nurse.

Well, a molded cheese sandwich is a delicacy! I hope to get all that I can get. And, with free lodgings, and plenty of room mates, I should feel right at home. I have lots to look forward to in my 'new' career:trout:
My mom had quadruple bypass at Mt. Sinai in New York two years ago. I traveled from Montana where I live to New York To care for her. I am a BSN, RN who practices in a frontier hospital. The hospital would not discharge her, she refused to have home health nurses come to the house. They discharged her to me. They did not ask to see my credentials.
She was one of the most difficult patients I ever had, until I learned to see the world through her eyes! I would suggest that we walk to the park bench. Mom would reply, "No, I don't feel like it!" I then said in passing,"...I wonder if Macy's has a pocketbook that would match my shoes, I was unable to find one in Missoula..."
It is amazing how you can strengthen a fresh post-op by checking out whats new around a mall!!!! Yet she wouldn't walk to the park!!! As it was getting time for me to leave, I made her show me that she could pick up a few items at the grocery store and the drug store. My threat was, "...if you can't take care of yourself, you will have to come home to Montana with me!
Oh, by the way, I have two brothers and a sister who live near Mom... and are hopelessly helpless!
