maybe its just me, but i get very bothered when someone says "i'm a nurse," and their not, their a cna, or nurse aid, or have no schooling at all and just worked their way up in a clinic. i work at a local emergency clinic 30 hours a week to gain experience in my field, and i just got accepted in ns, and i'v worked darn hard to get here! and i find it bothersome when one of the girls at work say "i'm the nurse" or something along those lines...i feel that when i graduate and pass my nclex that, only then, will i be able to say "i'm a nurse." the other day my doctor said "jamie, will you get a nurse?" i said "im sorry doc, i dont think we have any of those working here." he actually laughed and said "you know what i mean"......but is this just me?????
[/i understand what this thread is about. And I am not referring the the verb.Justl don't see any reason to restrict the NOUN "Nurse".
No big deal.
Grew up with many people referred to a "nurse", who were not RNs or LPNs. It was used as a term of respect.

so it is OK if I want people to start calling me Doctor?
It is called misrepresentation! Plain and simple! You cant' go around calling yourself or others what they aren't, especially when a liscense is involved in obtaining that title! It is not just a noun it is a hard earned Title!
Higher education does not mean more skills. I work with nurses that have a MSN and frankly they scare the heck out of me. Besides that most nurses that have higher education no longer work at the bedside. They move one.The general public doesn't realize the different educations. Besides I think with any profession, they can get higher education if they choose and still do what ever it is they do. Not all professions start out with a Phd.
True enough. In all my years I've never seen an MSN at the bedside. But I've always admired the one's I"ve met.
I hope you enjoy your golfing. The rest of us will take our country and our world more seriously. Someone has to, or you will shortly not have any place to golf.Woody:balloons:
Respect isnt automatic for any level of education, and respect isnt limited to the level of education you have achieved. Respect is earned on an individual level. You have to earn respect, and never take it for granted.
How by laughing at the world will this take away my golfing. No matter what happens, my golfing will continue. And my laughing at GWB and the human condition will be mirthfull.

Would you rather have your IV started by an Staff AD RN, or an office minded MSN

Perhaps in your world education doesn't earn one respect. I was raised in a military family. Education and the obtaining of additional education was all ways treated with respoect, you couldn't get very far in the military without it. In civilian life, I all ways respected those that had more education then I did, even though I might not have agreed with them. And I have all ways respected a law officer, even when I've been pulled over and received a ticket, they do a job most others will not. And I've all ways respected firemen, even pulling over, out of their way, as they spped down the road. And I have respected my teachers, both those in religous habits and those who are not. And I will admit, some I would not have given respect to, if it was not for their dress or level of education but that is the difference between me and you. For you, no one gets your respect, unless they meet your terms. For me, people get my respect based on their education or dressed. And they keep it until they do something to lose it.
Yes, I respect someone who has a BSN more then an AD because I iknow, from personal experience, what it takes to earn both. And I respect someone who has a Master's because again I know what it takes to earn one. And I definitely respect someone who holds a PhD, not because I have one but because I respect someone who has put themself through the process required to earn one.
Now I have to run. I have a meeting to go to, we are attmpting to decide who will run for our school district representative.

personally, i have respect for everyone and anyone-education aside. i know we all have different opinions/lifestyles/beliefs/cultures etc........ but, i do not respect anyone more because of their degree or how they dress.
i don't think that let's say tweety (who happens to be above this post) should be more worthy of anyone's respect because he just earned his bsn and is a male. i just can't understand that in my narrow mind i guess.
if you do something to lose my respect, then i could care less if you are god's gift of the world. some of the people i admire and respect are uneducated and 'measly' to some others. they mean the world to me because they have showed me so much more than any educational degree ever could.
just my humble and very personal opinion.

No where have I stated that I dont respect education achieved.
Whether you have an AD RN, A BSN, A MSN or whatever. I respect that, but that is past tense once you take the boards and become an RN. You cant rest on your BSNor MSN or whatever. You have to continually earn respect, By your actions and service. Or then you become a has been.
Yes everyone has to earn respect from me, it is not automatically inferred in life. Respect is an earned quantity. And needs to be kept earned on a continuous basis.
once you stop earning it you lose it. I used to respect GWB, note the empasis on used to. He has stopped earning my respect, therefore I dont respect him or Cheney.
Good luck on picking a school district representative, somehow I can imagine you only supporting a Republican one.
This is rapidly turning into the Tom and Woody comedy hour. I wonder if we get syndication rights.
See everything is humorous.
Kylee 45, you will make it!!! I did and just got pinned last Friday!! It's hell, alot of work, study and sacrifice. But if you love it like I did, you will do well. I'm 39 with two kids and a husband whom haven't seen me for over a year because of school. Now I have a good paying job, waiting to take my test, and life is good!!! It's worth it!!
WAW... seems that in US is much more easy to get the "dream job" as a RN as it is in Canada! They give you hard time to find something permanent and decent!
Cheers
