but if you are a nurse licensed within the last 3 years:
please list your city or state & how long did it actually take (between licensure & day of work) to secure you 1st job? the area?
newly licensed job seekers: please list your city or state & how long (since licensure) have you been looking for your 1st job??? how many interviews (if any) have you had? area?
thank you ladies! :heartbeat:heartbeat
god bless!
I graduated in Dec.2010, took NCLEX March 2011, have been apllying every day for a job!! I live in Massachusetts and it is tough to find something right now. Most places want 1yr experience...give us a chance I say! I still apply even if it says this and am praying that something will come my way. There are not many new grad programs right now either so no luck in that.
I graduated in Nov 2009, passed the NCLEX Feb 8, 2010, and started working in Columbus, OH, at a large teaching hospital as a Cardiac RN one week later on Feb 15. I absolutely cannot believe it's already been a year...
I started looking for a position one year before I graduated and contacted the Directors of the Nurse Residency programs I was interested in but waited until two months prior to graduation to begin applying. I was only interested in working for 2 hospitals: One in Cleveland and one in Columbus...had 2 interviews at the hospital in Cleveland and one interview in Columbus.
Graduated in Dec 2010 in Boise, Idaho
Passed NCLEX Jan 2011
Licensed in Jan 2011
Moved to NC in Feb 2011
Accepted job offer/started work Mar 2011
I knew I was moving to NC after graduation so I only applied for jobs there. I applied for about 20-25 new grad positions before being offered a job. I feel extremely lucky to have found a job, especially since it turned out to be at the hospital I wanted, and on the unit I wanted.
To all those still looking, I wish you the best of luck with all my heart!
[color=rgb(255, 140, 0)]i am in southeast missouri and i took my nclex (i think) september 30, 2010
my first day of work was november 23.
but that's not truly accurate because i turned down 2 other positions before accepting that one. granted the first 2 were prn and i needed full-time...
i was offered another position @ the end of december.
then accepted my current position on february 11th.
and wow, i sound like a job hopper, but i knew the job i accepted wasn't for me when i took it. but a paycheck speaks loudly when you need it!
the job i just started is in a state prison!!! yay!
I graduated in December 2010, became an RN on March 24th, 2011 () and applied for a bunch of jobs that same day...I realize it still has not been a week since I applied but I am hoping I can find something and soon! I am hoping that by already having an RN as well as working as a nurse tech in a hospital will put me at an advantage against the May grads trying to find jobs.
FYI, I currently live/work in Ohio as an NT and I am moving to Texas in May. I opted out of an Ohio license and just got my Texas one instead.
I graduated Dec 2010
Hired on full-time as a GN right after graduation with the understanding that I would work weekends once orientation was over.
Started orientation process Jan 2011.
Passed NCLEX-RN in Feb 2011.
Indeed I now work weekends. I started at this hospital during my last semester of nursing school as an extern and am extremely blessed to have been hired on. I'm in the DFW, TX area and the job market it tough. Several clinical classmates still do not have jobs and from what I hear there are many who graduated May 2010 who do not have jobs either. I got lucky and I know it. I say prayers of thanks everyday!
Graduated August 2009.Applied for 2 jobs around graduation.
First job interview early September 2009.
Job offer from that interview mid month.
Passed NCLEX end of September.
Started working beginning of October.
I went to school in Nebraska and got a job in the same city. I feel very fortunate!
Oops. Edited to correct the year (I put 2010 instead of the correct date 2009)
