Maternity in one room (in active labor), 2 ortho's with open #'s AND a stemi all at once with 2 nurses and 1 doc with new patients coming in every 8-10 minutes. No triage nurse...no maternity department. Ortho 5 hrs away. Mat 2 hrs away. Cardio 5 hrs away.

My personal opinion is that people watch to many TV shows and don't actually know what ER is all about. Working rural ER is a totally different animal compared to a big city ER. Big city would be a cake walk.

Just west of Ontario most agency nurses make 10 more an hour. But remember majority don't have benefits.

Good on the nurse for standing her ground. Shame on this "police officer" for doing what he did. He should be fired, charged and given a sentence like any Joe off the street. He is not above the law but in todays weak world he will get a slap on the wrist with a scripted apology to the nurse.

Your docs order the size? Half the time here they just say put a foley in and walk away. They could care less about sizes.

I give up educating patients on proper Er use. No point in wasting my breath. I do however get stern and quiet "pissed" off when we have an actual emergency and the abusers of the department keep asking how long the wait is.

Health Care in Canada is simple. Patients don't matter. Nurses are replaceable. Managers save lives. Its all about the money.

Just ask them nicely to take the pt home with them if they are more educated then the healthcare professionals looking after the family member.

Drug seekers are entertaining to say the least. Especially when the physicians give them naproxen.

Our OR, Public Health, acute floor likes to dump as much as possible on the ER. Then one day we spoke up. And now its getting a bit better.

Your sister is grossing well over 100k to net 75. Trust me as I netted over 80 last year and I live in a VERY high taxed province.

Nothing. So on my nights I bought everyone in ER and med/surg coffee. Said happy nurses week.
