I am a new grad nurse from Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated January 14th, 2011 and passed my NCLEX February 18th. I was just offered a job on March 8th on the mother/infant unit where I did my senior preceptorship last fall. I'm set to start working at the beginning of April and I consider myself very, very lucky to be starting in my favorite area of nursing (and to even have a job at all)! :redpinkhe

Specializes in Cardiac Nursing.

Graduated with ADN May 2008 in KY

Completed 120hr Preceptorship as RNA in October 2008 (then let go from unit as I was told I didn't "fit")

Took and passed NCLEX October 2008

Moved to NC for 1st job June 2009 (tried to transfer to a different unit as I couldn't handle the one hired too)

Moved back to KY November 2009 totally discouraged

Still unemployed as of March 2011 with no prospects and no interviews since Feb/March 2009

Planning to go back to school March/April 2011 for BSN to improve marketability in an area that is trending towards wanting more BSN's.

Total # of apps put in= too many to count with maybe 6-8 interviews all back in 2008-2009. I haven't had a single interview since moving back home.

*I also feel very luck finding a position on the exact type of floor I wanted to be on! Having to drive a little farther for it, but that doesn't bother me at all.

Specializes in DDS.

I graduated in April 2010 took my NCLEX-LPN in May 2010. I recieved my first LPN position in July 2010 but it was only a Per diem shift. This month I finally landed a part time position. It took awhile but with determination and diligence it finally happened.

Graduated in June 2009. Living in Central Ohio it took until March 2010 to find a job. In July of 2010 I was unceremoniously canned from said job in a long-term care center w/ 50 patients under my watch, they said my documentation wasn't up to par... I couldn't disagree, but I was happy every night I managed to give everyone their pills and keep em breathing! I got my next job September of 2010 where I am still employed, it is another LTC center. I hate it. I regret ever getting into this field.

Specializes in NICU, new to school nursing.

Graduated May 2010 licensed in June 2010 and living in Chicago. I am still looking for that first nursing job. I have filled out countless applications and have been on two interviews. One went to someone with more experience and the second was for new grad program that had, according to the person who interviewed me, 300 applicants. They interviewed 40 and hired 12. Getting picked for an interview boosted my confidence a little b/c at least that means my resume/cover letter is not too bad. I am considering getting an indiana or wisconsin license as well but after doing some research prospects don't look much better there so I am not sure if it is worth the money. It is hard but I try to keep positive :nurse:

Specializes in Telemetry/IMC.

Central Texas

Graduated- 12/2010

Passed Boards- 2/2011

Started 1st Job- 1/2011

Started 2nd Job- 2/2011

I work PRN at the 1st job because it's in an area that I have a genuine interest in. I work full time at the other one. The pay is better and there's more opportunity for advancement within the hospital. I filled out numerous applications before landing the 2nd job. The first job was immediately available to me upon graduation because that is where I'd done my clinicals during the last semester of school.
