this is a roll call just to compare stats..... helpful hints may come out of this...

but if you are a nurse licensed within the last 3 years:

please list your city or state & how long did it actually take (between licensure & day of work) to secure you 1st job? the area?

newly licensed job seekers: please list your city or state & how long (since licensure) have you been looking for your 1st job??? how many interviews (if any) have you had? area?

Anyhow, I completed an RN associate degree program in March 2010 and passed NCLEX in May. I have more than four years of LVN/LPN experience and have not been able to land a job at an acute care hospital. I was immediately able to land a position at a nursing home. Two months after having received the RN license, I landed a PRN position as a floor nurse at a smallish rehabilitation hospital. I am located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.

Graduated in May 2008, had job lined up prior to graduation, started in June, passed boards in July. Recession did not hit my area until 2009. I live in Western New York (Buffalo area). Jobs scarce now for new grads- too many nursing schools around- but cost of living very low.

I graduated in May 2010 but moved a few weeks after graduation. From the time I started looking for jobs, it only took me about a month (which was waiting for 2 new grad programs to be listed, so I could apply, though I did look at other stuff in the meantime). I applied to the 2 new grad programs in my area with Oct 2010 starts (Washington DC/ Northern VA area), and I got interviews for both and was offered both jobs.

i kinda am being a bit subjective here..:) when asking about those who've starting in the "nursing field" within the last 3 years?????? your experiences..........

ooooh.... also anyone who may have been in medicine (different area) what occupation were you in at that time?

a part of the question was (poorly:-( framed to reflect changes in the employment/hiring trends over the last three years.... (sorry for any confusion ladies:uhoh3:)... not quite defined by what hospitals consider new hires:confused:

Graduated BSN in may 2010, took passes nclex june 19th, and will start my first job October 25th. so it took me 4 months and some help from people working in the hospital to get a job. If I didn't have help, I'd still be looking.

I graduated May 7th, 2010, passed the NCLEX on June 10th, 2010, and started my job August 19th. So about 3 months of job seeking. I am in Tucson, Arizona.

To be fair, though, my experience is skewed; I signed a contract with this hospital for tuition payment in exchange for 4 years of work after graduation. I didn't send out any other applications, just waited for this hospital to come off its hiring freeze.

As far as I know, my pay is competitive. $24/hour base pay, $27 on average with my night shift differential. Looking at salary.com, that's about average for my area and my level of experience. I may move on, only because I'm planning on buying a home across town from this hospital, and the commute would suck :p
