Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.
I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.
:welcome: Happy Posting!

Hello, My name is Nancy and I have been working as a CNA since July 2006. The way I got a job with no experience was to accept a PRN position first, which led to a full time position one month later when they saw what a good worker I am. Good luck!!!
Hi Nancy, thanx for the info. I'm not very good with all these abreviations so could you tell me what is PRN?
Hi everyone. I'v been lurking for a few weeks now and from what I have seen this seems like a really cool message board with nice people. A little background first.
I am 36 and I have waited tables for the majority of my life. Except for 5 years in a warehouse, shipping pharmaceutical drugs. I had been with my most recent employer for over 4 years waiting tables. I'm currently unemployed, by choice. I gave my 2 weeks notice at the beginning of the year hoping to start things off with a new career in 2007. I was tired of serving groceries. I need something a little more rewarding.
I signed up for 5 weeks worth of CNA classes at the American Red Cross. Classes start Monday. I am very excited and nervous! I just hope I can do it. Thanks for providing this informational forum!
hey ex-ashkickingserver vbmenu_register("postmenu_2048089", true); i know what ya mean. i currently work retail in the grocery department at a local store. i signed up for cna classes to get out of there make a little more money and figure it will give me the expierence i need/want for lpn schooling which i start in april. good luck with all you do hope all goes well.
:Melody: hello all I am Lorrie from Montana, I have been a Cna for 7 years, I am in my 3 semester of prereqs for a health care core program. I will eventually recieve my RN degree. So thank you for this form so that we can vent also. I have been with Nurses.com for 6 years, one of my nurses turned me on to it. Good place to be able to see what is going on out side of my world.
Hi everyone - Here is a horror story.....well I finally went for my stna (state) test and guess what?? My evaluator was busy ordering lunch (it was 12:30 and they were hungry), while I started to perform my skill test I asked her to pay attention to what I was doing, and she said she was listening with one ear and eye while she was ordering her sub sandwich. Anyway, she missed a couple of things I did during the test, and I failed the skills test because of it. I am going to try and appeal the stupid thing, but I am really aggravated at the whole thing. This is going to cost me money to do it over again. So here's a hint of advice, wait until after lunch before you have your skills testing. Unbelievable!!!!!
