Welfare, in the state of MT, it is easier to be on welfare than not, free medical, vision, dental, foodstamps and even education. I can see why people are on welfare. It is just to easy and the working class pays for it. As far as preventive medicine, what a joke, you go in for something preventive and it is declined by insurance. Why? It is an unnecessary procedure. So we wait until it is bad enough to be considered an emergency. It is a no win situation.

Please do not get me wrong, I am a nurses aide and am studying to be a nurse. I am a firm believer in care more not pay more. I do all that I can to see that patients get a fair shake. The current system needs a major overhauling!!!! I do not know if socialized is the best, I think that there must be a happy medium between the two. Sorry if anyone took what I said wrong.:bowingpur

I agree that we will all be cut down to a common denominator. This will include doctors also, but what of the private sector that all universal health care countries have? Or is this a myth? I have had friends who have had to be treated in other countries, they say that if you can't pay the BIG bucks then you are like everyone else. I am tired of those who are all about me. We need to find some common ground again and try working for the ones who pay their fair share. Middle class, as for care only in the ER I disagree, in the facility that I work in, we give the same care no matter how rich or how poor a person is, since when is it a practice to know if someone is wealthy or a vagrant?

citygrl 646, is the reason that you went into nursing for the money or to help patients? I am not trying to be rude, but the whold reason for myself going into nursing is to make a difference, try to change the "outdated" way of thinking and bring a more caring, nuturing and updated care to the patients. I really hope that you do not quit, if your heart is truly in the profession, hang in there and things will slowly come around. It might be just one small thing, but that is one step in the right direction. Good luck and God Bless

As a nursing student myself, I would have to say that no, student nurses for the most part are not ready for "Real Life" in my state it is not required for student nurses to be a CNA or tech before joining school. It use to be, now these men and women are told to go and "volunteer". I have been a CNA since 2000, I know some of what the job entails, so help me though if I hear another student say, "I am getting my RN so that I don't have to wipe butts" I will scream. In the state of Montana I do not know about how soon you must obtain a job. In my area most that are training for CNA are working in a nursing home or hospital. I do know that you must have so many CE per year. go for the gold there it is a very rewarding job and I am going to school to hopefully get a degree in health care. So good luck and if you are lead to it then it will be right for you

I have been a CNA for the last 8 years and going to school hopefully for my LPN. In case some have forgotten if it was not for the patient then you would not have a job. The patient is what pays your salary. Some healthcare professionals have gotten so BOLD about the fact that they are only in it for the money. No wonder health cost have gone through the roof. I truly hope that some day when you are in a hospital, you have health care professional that are truly professional and not money hungry. The money is nice but the patient is first and for most.

I am in pre recs for nursing school at this time. I have heard all sorts of things, not enough instructors, not enough clinical space, and now there is no "waiting list" They have done away with it, but we only take 20 students and there are 500 other applicants waiting to get in. The sad part is that many of these that get in are 20 something, have never been in a hospital before, they are told to go and volunteer. What a joke, in this state you can not touch a pt as a volunteer. There is none of the responsibility that goes with any of the job. No tush wiping, no cleaning of the emesis, no clean up of blood, no I and Os, NOthing. When I first thought about this program it was a requirement to be a CNA for 2 years before going to school. I think if the CNA requirement were back in effect, the students that were applying for the programs would be more serious, because they would know that they will be expected to clean a backside, emesis, blood and that is the tip of the iceburg. bsaj I actually recieved my CNA at the hospital where I work. Not all faculities offer this, it is usually at the nursing home just up the street. Good luck. I really think that CNA is very Important. At the school that I am going to they do not require a CNA. THIS is so lacking on the boards side. So many of the ones that are graduating have no clue as to the work that has to be done. THis can not be learned by volunteering. As volunteers are not allowed to do any "on hand" with the pt. First let me assure that being a CNA is very hard. If you treat your patients with the love care and respect that you would like any one of your family members or yourself to have, then you will do well. Some days I feel as though it is a thankless job. For the most part as long as I see a pt smile, laugh, or make a tiny improvement. Then I know that I am doing well at my job. Do not go in expecting your PCC to do any of your work! If you have good nurses and they have time then they will help you. Unfortunatly, they are bogged down with paper work and have no time for hands on. I have been an aide for 7 years and am currently going to school for my LPN, surg tech or therapy tech. The reason I have 3 are you never know what program will be open or what limitations are in the works. Thank you for letting me sound off. Good luck

So thank you for this form so that we can vent also. I have been with Nurses.com for 6 years, one of my nurses turned me on to it. Good place to be able to see what is going on out side of my world.

I am sorry that you feel that way. With out cna's where would you be? Wiping back sides and giving showers. I am a cna and in a health core program right now. I am so tired of hearing "its not my job, I did not go to school for that, or they don't pay me enough money to clean those people up." How sad that you feel this way, just remember that what you dish out you will recieve. I wish that all states required you to be a cna before you applied to a health core program. I pity you, your attitude is not a compasionate one at all.

I am 45 yrs old and am in the middle of my 3rd semester. I have 3 girls 2 grandchildren and work 2 part time jobs all while going to school 5 days a week. If I can do this so can you.

I would just like to say that I am impressed that some nursing programs still make being a C.N.A a prereq. to their program. I have been a nurses aide for 6 years now I started nursing school last year. There is no requirement in the program that you must be a c.n.a any more. It use to be this way but they have done away with this. Can anyone tell me why. The facility that I work in is a small med/surg with a smaller OB dept. The c.n.a's can tell the difference in the nurses that have been aids and those who just went to school. With out any first hand knowledge of basic patient care. Now I am rambling and so enough said.
