  1. YES! THAT's ME! I am so glad I am not alone in the world! My situation is soooooooo amusing, if not unbelievable! I myself am not a "math" person having had to start CC with basic math. I thought I was doing so well that I took the next level of math with same instructor, and I thought I was "getting" it when towards the end of the semester I realized that the instructor was just "passing" me! I ended up taking two math classes and just being "passed". Guess what? Now in my attempts to take the LAST math class needed to enter RN program, and I am TOTALLY LOST. So here is where my phobia lies! I've had to drop twice and I am so scared of this algebra that I'm even thinking RE-TAKING the PRE-ALGEBRA again! I know if you apply yourself and do some self studying you will GET IT! If necessary please don't be afraid to take a "pre" class all over again, heaven knows you will not be ALONE! Thanks for reading!
  2. so true! if anything i have learned in this forum, especially this forum, is that i will be attacked no matter what!(can you believe this was my very first post, ever?) thanks to people like you who understand my p.o.v. no, i was not bashing lvns. it's just paying over $30,000 for lvn course seems a bit exagerrated for just yes just the lvn license,(given my situation) when i would have to still go through rn program! not that lvns aren't important, because i know they are! my goodness! thanks for the benefit of the doubt!
  3. once again dorselm, thank you! i wish you the best of luck in your career and i'm sorry that you miss your breaks and lunch. it all goes to show that you are truly dedicated to your patients, even though it is not always peachy! ( if you know what i mean) like i've mentioned before my time and financial resources are very scarce at the moment and i just wanted to enter the nursing profession and make significant contributions. if that means learning to "get out of my comfort zone" then so be it. what doesn't kill my only makes me stronger right? i do comprehend that it will make me a little more experienced as far as bedside care is concerned. i just know that not every nurse does this every day all day long... that is why they invented the cna position right? i think so. i'm even starting to doubt my interest in lvn, since hearing all this lack of respect and all... i'll keep you updated though. to top it all off the lvn school closest to my home is $32,000 but almost everyone has been telling me i'm crazy if i want to pay that much just for lvn, when the "adult" school in the next city is only $7,000!!!! i just fear that chances are so slim for an lvn to get hired in a hospital nowadays and the expensive school is through the hospital so it's like my "security blanket" of sorts...well now that i've vented i've got alot of decisions to make... thanks again!
  4. Helo Caliotter3, thanks for info! I definately do not have DISPOSABLE $ but the reason I thought this program was necessary is because it is through a hospital and I figured I would get a better chance of being hired @ the hopital. I've heard stories of people getting LVN through adult school and having very limited options. (for example LTC) not that there's anything wrong but I was aiming for hospital setting in terms of nursery. I've got only 3 more courses to apply for associates degree, but wait lists are LONG and I do not have that much time! Well thanks for listening!
  5. hello everyone! i have an important question regarding lvn school. i should be starting a hospital based nursing school in mid march (if all goes well). only problem is, it's going to set me back about $32,000 !!!!! so i've been doing some research and found out that a local adult school is offering lvn for about $8,000!!! will earning a degree through adult school lower my chances to get a position in a hospital? is adult school as authentic as cc or tech schools? i need any and all info please!!!!!

  7. ...as to be hired in newborn nursery or NICU? I am currently finishing up some PRE-reqs for nursing school and contemplating whether or not to work as LVN for a while before BSN. I think my prospective hospital hires LVNs in nursery and I wanted to know from the experts, what their duties called for and if LVNs were an asset to this particular "team". Thanks so much!
  8. ...should have posted in peds forum:roll:roll:roll:roll:roll:roll:roll:roll:roll the question's not so taboo there!
  9. whew!:pumpiron: i got tired just reading your response! it is exactly what i imagined if not more! it is the job that most nurses do not want to do (in a sense) and gets the least pay! i'm not trying to sound mean or anything. i admire your courage and perseverence(sp?) and i wish you the best always. i appreciate the time you took to respond to me, for it was beneficial in my understanding what a cna actually does. i feel this position should get way more pay! in the end though it will have given you expertise in the nursing field. when i had originally posted this, about a week ago, my head has been chewed off and spat back by some people who feel differently and/or mistook my honesty and interpreted it as not being compassionate about the "older population" truth is that compassion is the reason i wanted to be a nurse in the first place,it's just my heart is set on doing peds or in neonatal...only time will tell. hats off to you my new friend! and thank you for your honesty!
  10. hi steph, my plans now are still the same. yes i hope that doesn't shock anyone, and even though many of you have written "i sure wouldn't want you to be my nurse..." (without knowing me....(?) ) but i will definately take the generous advice of some of the people in this post. i will have to do cna no matter what, it is part of my schooling and since there's no way to go around it, i will take each day as a learning experience. i forgot where in the post someone wrote something about learning humility through it all and that makes sense to me. i know myself well enough to know that i do not want to stay stuck there or as an lvn either (sorry) because i've always dreamed of being an rn. i do understand that rns have to clean poopy but the multitude of their other duties outweighs the poopy. i really would not mind working with children poopy! and some people wrote you have to work with older folks to know how to deal with the younger ones and i highly disagree...when you're own kids are born they are, uh, babies to my last recollection:selfbonk:. no one ever said, nor is it ever written anywhere that in order to be an outstanding nurse you must enjoy or make being a cna your lifetime profession. for some of us it is extremely difficult be a full time parent/student with limited income to settle for less after completing the challenge of nursing school! (sorry again since i know i've cause a lot of controversy here) so will i change "grandma's depends" ? (as one post put it)...yes, like i said earlier i take any job seriously and if that is required of me as part of my nursing profession (for the meantime) i will have to "suck it up" as i've been told over and over again... this doesn't make you more compassionate though... i know where my heart is, and it is not working with the older folks all day. yes i too will be old one day, this is very apparent, and come that day the people taking care of me will be there because thay want to be there.. and the nurse that doesn't want to be there will be busy in some other department doing what she/he is compassionate about doing! end of story...for now! i found so much information about the peds dept on their forum and you know what? i'll be ok! thanks stevie and best wishes!
  11. thank god for jelli_belli!:yeah:as he or she hit it right on the nose! i am so glad someone was brave enough to write something "taboo" as it seems after all these responses, and many private ones (that were in favor i might add..)yes it's true i don't look forward to changing briefs as a living, but no i would not let a patient sit in poopy because of my preferences! i take jobs very seriously and if i gotta do it then so be it! i don't know where in the post i ever mentioned i would let a patient suffer.. like i was being accused of... to wrap it all up, like jelli_belli stated,"...everyone has their own path"
  12. i'm still guessing siemprebella...
  13. Hello All! I will be starting my hospital based CNA course which lasts 2 months before I jump into LVN training (15 months) and it will be costing me a whopping $32,000! I read on other ppls posts that even $15,000 was mind blowing! Could this be so? HELP!:uhoh21::uhoh21::uhoh21::uhoh21:
  14. it's not condescending it's called honesty! there are other ways of "saving lives" beside changing diapers as you stated! : )
