Calling All CNA's!

Published

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

My name is Becky & I'm completely brand new to allnurses.com - I'm SO glad to have found the CNA discussions board. I am 27 years old, a happy wife & a proud mommy to two very sweet, very onery children. On April 9, I begin my classes to become a CNA. I'm super excited & very nervous. I've never worked in healthcare before. I've worked office jobs & in retail & this is a huge career change for me!

Hello all!!

My name is Chrissy and I am currently trying to go to school for nursing, I want to get my BSN and be a travel nurse.

From what I have been told and from what I see you guys post it sounds like becoming a CNA is the way to go. I am so glad I found all of you, since before I came to this site I was very confused on how to obtain my degree.

I am thinking about moving to another state, one that the programs are not so competitive. The one I am enrolled in now has a 2 year waiting list for a 1 year LPN program with very little prereqs required.

If anyone has any advice on any good nursing programs just about anywhere in the country hit me up! Thank you so much!!

Hey, my name is Dana and i am a CNA as of jan. 06, just recently started working at Intrim health care. I Graduated HS in june 06 and went straight to college and i am not working on becomming a RN. Hopefuly i will relocate to a better place when i become a RN. I realy enjoy working with other people and even talking to other people.

Specializes in long term care.

hello. I am a STNA/CNA and I have been since 2001. I want to eventually get my LPN license.

Anyone here from PA., Pittsburgh or surrounding areas?

Wow, I just finished CNA school, now all I need is to take the test in order to get licensed. I'm so glad that I went through the course. These are great skills to have no matter who you are or what career you are working towards. Just knowing that I can take care of a loved one if something happend makes me feel like a worthwhile person. Now I realize that nursing is in fact the right career for me, but should I go straight to RN or do something like surg tech or radiology tech or LPN first?

Hello all! I am in school to become a CNA and graduate in 5.5 weeks (may 7th) I am so excited!!!

thank goodness for a CNA forum :)

i'm currently going to school to pursue my BSN, but in the meantime i want to get my CNA license so i can go ahead and "get out there" in the nursing world because 4 years for me is too long of a wait.

so as of now i'm not a CNA *YET* but i'm starting classes (hopefully) on july 9th at a local community college. i can't wait!!!

My name is Antoinette, and I have been a STNA/CNA since 2001. I have worked mainly in Ohio and now in Pennsylvania. At 46 I do believe and LPN license is in store for me in the future.

I might as well post since I haven't really done much posting.

I'm Maria, 27, in Wisconsin. I used to be an English major but now I've decided to pursue nursing. My ultimate goal is a BSN and beyond that I'm not sure - its all about the cost of school and whether I find my niche along the way. I am currently taking a CNA class in Madison at the tech college and I am two lectures and one lab away from clinicals. What I hope to do is work as a CNA, get my ADN and go the RN to BSN route only because my grades and classes at the university won't get me into the BSN program anywhere right now.

Ciao everybody!

Specializes in ICU, cardiac.

Hi there! I'm Julie and just got my CNA certification last fall. I've wanted to get into the nursing field for a long time now so I thought I'd start here. I first worked in a long-term care facility but about a month ago, I got a job at a local hospital and I LOVE it! I'm finishing my prereqs. for nursing school and plan to work as a CNA as I go to school. :)

I just recently found this site and I think it's great! :)

Specializes in LTC, Assisted Living, Surgical Clinic.

Hey all! I'm currently in nursing assistant classes, scheduled to be done in a couple of weeks and state tested by mid-May. Already hold a cert as a scrub tech, but jobs are like hen's teeth around here, and I decided I'd get my STNA to serve the dual purpose of providing some income now as well as $$ for nursing school (hopefully). Basic nursing care is far from glamorous, but I'm looking forward to getting in there!

Mabuhay and hi everyone! I just finished CNA last march 2007 and our graduation is on the month of May. This is a tough and challenging career to pursue and i do not regret taking up this course. It helps me earn the confidence a lot. As of now I am looking for a job that will fits my course.Anybody knows where? Thanks.
