Calling All CNA's!

Published

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

:welcome: Happy Posting!

Finally, a CNA forum!!!

I've been a CNA for 6 years, 5 of which have spent working on a med/surg floor and ICU. I am taking prereqs for RN and am done with prereqs for LPN. Waiting to get into a program. I know exactly what area I want to go in when I'm done - NICU. I have wanted to do that since I was 12. Possibly considering going into the Navy after graduation but that depends on my health. Been wanting to get into the Navy since I was 5. I love the military and travelling, so why not get paid for what I love?

Hi there, you say you are done with Lpn prereq's and now working on RN prereq's??? I'm not understanding. Are you planning on doing the LPN to RN bridge. I am a new CNA, and considering doing prereq work then....??

Hi. I'm so grateful for this forum. I haven't check into this site for a while because the last time I did, no one knew the anawer to my question -- which is: is it possible to advance from CNA to LPN totally online? I've worked as a CNA off & on forthe past 30+ years. Now I have a full time office job but still do CNA in temporary positions. I am not going to quit my office work, but I may be able to do whatever clinical requirments there are in the LPN training program at the local LTCF where I work, if there is a program that will accept a long-distance proctor. Does anyone know of any such program in existance? Thanks for your help. Jingles

To b honest with you, there r some good online schools and the first one that comes to mind is Phonix Online but I had never thought to look to c if they have an LPN online corse for ya. I do hope that you will find what ya need. You can also look something like that up on this allnurses.com website to help you on finding an online LPN corse to take too!

Just wanted to say hello to all of you and see how everthing is goin in the world of nursing. by the way im new to this allnursing.com thing as well. =)

hello all. i am currently enrolled in the rn program and have just completed my first semester of clinical. i was offered a job as a tech in iicu,on the weekends, which i did accept. any advise on working in this unit will be helpful because i've heard that this can be an intense environment and i am a bit nervous.

Hi my Name is Andy, I have been an allnurses junkie since Jan 06'. I kind of just stumbled on this place when i was looking for info about applying to nursing school. Back then it was a total blur, and thanks to this site everything is alot clearer. I been through a pretty wacky year. I have been working as a CNA for a long time now, and back in December of 05' i decided i wanted to go further and become a Nurse. Like i said i was completely oblivious to the fact of the college process let alone the process of applying to nursing school, but faith and determination got me through it and i will be starting nursing school in the fall.

I loved working as a CNA, alot of times it was grueling backbreaking work, but anything worth doing always is. I have had some great experiences, and got to work with wonderful people. The best part of it thought was getting to be there for the people that i took care of and got to know them and their families. I'm glad that i started out as a CNA, because it gave me some good people skills for starters.

I look foward to hearing other CNA's and everyone's stories

Andy

Hello to all the fellow CNAs out there!!!!!

Wow!!!! This site is amazing and unbelievable. I am a brand new CNA, only certified since December 20, 2006. I happened to find this site while looking for CNA jobs. I am so happy to have found a site where I can get tips and help. I am pretty nervous about applying for my first job. Everything I have found so far is asking for experience. Well, hopefully someone will give me the experience I need. Well, wish me luck with typing up the resume and finding an evening CNA job.

The name is Ash. I have been attending classes for three weeks in PA. After next week they are all done and i just have to wait to take the test.

Hi everyone,

I a newbie to this forum and a new CNA also. I got my CNA in June of 2006. I'm still looking for a job in the Chicago land area. All the jobs so far require experience. I wonder if anyone found a job in a hospital environment w/o any experiences at all. Please let me know

Glad to know this place. It's a wonderful site

Hello, My name is Nancy and I have been working as a CNA since July 2006. The way I got a job with no experience was to accept a PRN position first, which led to a full time position one month later when they saw what a good worker I am. Good luck!!!
