Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.
I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.
:welcome: Happy Posting!
am really glad i dropped in on this forum. am in a&p and lab for pre-req for nursing school, but can't afford anymore school for this january. however, am considering for the 2nd time to take a free cna course at local hospital this december. i think cna's have such a huge role in the nursing profession-yet maybe don't get a lot of recognition? i don't know as i am new to all of the medical field-but my goal is to become a nurse in the er, eventually. i have a great amount of respect for all who are cna's-and those of you who took the time to remind me, as a new student, the rewarding aspects of being a cna as well as the benefits of being a cna prior to an rn, i thank you! i have been losing motivation lately, and reading all of these comments from you have helped-thanks again, allnurses

thank you, tammy. i am currently struggling through a&p and the lab-am almost done-but i thank you for the motivational comment that you've posted. i am simply going through financially tough times-local hospital offering free cna course, and although being a cna would be incredibly challenging, psychologically as well as physically, your note was very helpful an inspirational-thank you!

Hi everyone, Been CNA for over 20 years, just starting my journey to become a nurse, Just a gentle reminder that --, LOVE-- is the essence of all things in this life that we live, so the next time you have a difficult or frustrating day, or patient is drivin ya crazy, remember to take 3 slow deep breaths, exhale very slowly, close your eyes, imagine a huge pink heart in front of you, with --LOVE-- written on it!! Give yourself a great big nurturing hug, and step out in faith and gentleness, and know with confidence ,that you have meaning and purpose, to give the love you are meant to give, to those that need your kindness and compassion, understanding and patience!! I send you an abundance of LOVE, Thanks for all that you do to serve humanity, My Warmest Regards, Florence, Please pm me?
I have been a CNA/PCA for one month now. I am starting Nursing III of the RN program in Jan. I thought by becoming a CNA it would expose me to the more compassionate side of nursing. I needed to be able to make this area of care easier on myself, and the patient. I am really glad I did too! I decided to accept a position with a hospital in a med/surg unit. I am currently at an LTC and really feel that a med/surg unit in a hospital will be far more valuable to my education at this point. The LTC promised to place me in the subacute area, but I seem to be in the long-term side more and more these days. I love the residents but want to learn more as I get through the second half of the nursing program. I think every nursing student would benefit enormously from a CNA experience.
