Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.
I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.
:welcome: Happy Posting!
Sorry to hear about your not so good experience.A lot of people work hospice because its a job.I work hospice because it is my calling.Your mom should have never been gotten up.My rule is the patient sets the rules.Often the family will say why dont you give mr x a shower? And if mr x is able to have a shower,ok,but if he doesnt feel up for it or I have a safety concern, then a bed bath is fine.I am glad to hear she was fired.
I PASSED! I PASSED! I PASSED THE CNA EXAM ON FRIDAY!
I'm so happy that I'm finally on my way into the nursing profession. I finished CNA school, passed the Red Cross exam, and I've been hired by a SNF. I'm working NOC shift, at a SNF/Rehad facility. The money isn't very good. But working NOC will allow me to study when I get into nursing school.

Hi all, I am currently a CNA, and have worked in a LTF actually with mentally challenged individuals. Did alittle Home Health, and Private Duty. I would love to have my own patients and continue to further my studies in the nursing field (finally). Keep me in your prayers, I thought I was alittle too old to begin all over, but it's never too late to follow your dream. Can I hear from those of you over 45. Thanks and God Bless
i just signed up for a CNA program today that starts oct. 25th. i'm a little nervous but i've had experience in the healthcare field as an EMT-B and Phlebotomist. i too have a useless degree at this point but i know it will be worth "gold" should i decide to pursue nursing.
glad to see a lot of cna's as well as some of us
Hi! My name is Tiffany & I've been a CNA for 5.5 years now. I've worked LTC, Home Health, Travel, Hospital, & Rehab. Sometimes these jobs overlapped! I LOVE my current job in rehab. I am learning so much & am very pleased with the thought that nursing school may be a little bit easier for me with my experience.
I seriously think my happy setting at the moment has EVERYTHING to do with my nurses. Work is MUCH easier and more enjoyable when I am treated as an equal with a different job description rather then the CNA who only is there to do the dirty work & to take advantage of. :kiss
My biggest pet peeve is when I worked other places and would encounter the nurses that simply refused to answer call lights even though I was up to my elbows in feces & they were simply chatting amongst themselves. I always wanted to say "hey...we're a team and that is OUR patient as in YOURS as well! Could ya help me out?" :trout:

Hello, Robyn,
First let me say to you as a hospice caregiver. You are a Wonderful & Caring person to be in this field. I want to share with you my one and only experience with hospice. My mother was in home hospice for only one week. But that week was probably the worst week of her life! I cringe to think how she would have been treated if she would have been in a hospice facility. The only nurse that helped me was a personal friend that was in charge of her care (she is an RN).The Cna that was supposed to assist my mom was rude and very demanding ! She made my mom get out of bed even though the doctor had my mom on complete bed rest.My mom told her no several times the CNA still made her get up!! I finally had enough and I told her to leave. She reported me to my friend as being a B! My mom passed away that night! I was responsibly for my mom and I felt like crap when my mom asked me why she was so mean to her!! Needless to say she was fired when I told my friend how she treated my mom. I know not all hospice workers are this way,I just wanted to share my store with you.
