Calling All CNA's!

Published

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

:welcome: Happy Posting!

I'm a freshman at Century College in White Bear Lake of Minnesota. I recently decided to major in nurse midwife/RN. Not only that, but I've always wanted to be one since I was in middle school. phew! Reading everyone's information makes me a little embarrass. I don't know much about medical stuff, so apologies if I ask too many questions a long the way. Currently, I'm trying to be a Nursing Assistant, but the only thing I know of is that I need to take a program and pass a test before becoming one. I'm so clueless. I didn't know people had to go through so much to just be a Nursing Assistant. I want to apply at the hospital, but they said they're not accepting anymore applicants after july 2006. I'm a month late  I need all the information I can get in becoming a Nursing assistant and nurse midwife/RN hehe, thanks for letting me introduce myself :thankya: -Choua

Hello all, my name is John and I am a National Certified Patient Care Technician as well as a CNA here in the state of Arizona.:flamesonb I currently work in a Long Term Acute Care Hospital as a PCT. I recently accepted a position at St. Josephs Hospital in Tucson. I will be working on the Cardiac Telemetry Unit. My main reason for the change is that St. Joe's is a teaching hospital. After my 90 day "probation" I can apply to the program, which is a "PCT to RN" program. I am very excited about this opportunity. My plans are to stick with Telemetry then specialize in Critical Care and eventually Travel Nurse. I can tell you that the backbone of Nursing are the Tech's and CNA's. I raise my cup to all of you!

John

Hey, my name is Mary. I have been a CNA for 24 years now. I have really enjoyed all the wonderful things that I have learned at each job that I have done . I am proud to be a CNA.All CNA's/NA's/PCT's or what ever your state calls you. Never forget that we are all unique in our own way! So lets keep up the good work!!

Specializes in ICU, Alzheimer's care.

i'm angie, and i just started work as a cna about 2 months ago. i'm 24, graduated from college with a useless degree, and am going back to school for nursing, gradually picking away at prereqs until my wait list # comes up. i lived abroad for a year doing volunteer work, and the eventual goal is to go into the field of international health development, working with countries to train local staff and citizens to help themselves.

i work in an alzheimers care unit in a small nursing home in my hometown, and so far, i love it. it's the most difficult job i've ever had, but also the easiest, if that makes sense.

peace

I'm an ADN student working as a tech, I took the job because I think it will make me a better nurse. I have found that I am not quite so squemish (sp?) as I once was and I have gotten REALLY good at not gagging! Quite proud of myself for the last one! Also, I've been able to see some really neat things where I work and I know I am going to LOVE nursing!!!:nurse: :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat you get the idea

I enjoy the wonderful satisfaction of the job and i hate to mention it but, does anybody know where the good money is at? I mean 10 dollars an hour is great but where is the better money? thanks, willie

Hi, I am graduating from my CNA course in three weeks. We are doing clinicals on the weekends and it really is giving me a great outlook for the future. I really enjoy taking care of people and this is giving me so much satisfation! I am looking into the RN program at the comm college near here(southern Maine). Tomorrow morning I have an informational session for the program (Yay!) I am 27 and the mother of two little boys and am very excited to be starting on the venture. I want to get a degree and to make some money while doing something I enjoy. Old people are funny, (and they smell funny, lol) but they are very endearing, wonderful, and deserve my care. ~littlegnomess
