Calling All CNA's!

Published

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

:welcome: Happy Posting!

Hi everyone! I'm Amber and have been a STNA since April 14th 2004 and have been at the same nursing home since July 04. I work in a Traumatic Brain Injury Unit, we also have a geriatric side but I'm not over there a lot. I love my job, although I do get stressed and burnedout out with work and school. I work with some great people that I love espescially the girls on my weekend.

Hi my name is brian and I am a C.N.A, I emensly love this line of work because you get to meet knew people and listen to the story's the elderly will tell you once they get to know you. I have been in the C.N.A line of work for about 5 years now. I would like to learn how to better my knowledge and apply it in every day work. I am looking forward to going to the local community college to get my assosiates in nursing. I really do hope that I may learn from you and your experinces.

Thank you, Brian

Hello, my name is Alex, and I am looking to get re-certified as a CNA in CA. I started in Washington at a nursing home for about a year, then moved back to CA and did home care for one person, also for approx a year. I let my license lapse last year due to my mother's suicide, and I am now trying to get re-certified in CA. I feel I am finally ready to get back to work, I miss it! ;D

Hello Alex i do believe that you must not work as a CNA for 2 years in order for your license to laps, but the laws may be diferent in cali, i would call my state board of nursing and find out if it had lapsed or not you may be lucky.;)

Well, since I acquired the license in Washington state, then moved back home to Cali, I think it has ;( I have to do some leg work to sort the whole mess out.

Yay, paperwork! ;P

Hello everyone! I have been a CNA since 1991. I worked 5 years in long term care, didn't work for a while and have now worked at a small rural hospital going on 8 years. I absolutely love patient care. I put 4 kids through college (3 have Masters degrees) and at 47 years old I got a wild hair and decided I wanted to complete a dream I have always had and become a nurse. I graduate as an LPN on May 11th and begin my RN classes in August. I must tell you that being a CNA for so long has made things much easier for me. And no matter how far or where I go I will always respect the work CNA's do.

Hello,

I am new everyone, thanks for having me. I am a student at Wichita State University in Kansas and I am a CNA. The trouble is, I can't actually work right now because I also have four young children. I worked for a few months, then began missing a lot of work due to my school/maternal situation. I would like to work again, but with school (BSN) and the kids- I just can't manage it now. It is nice to see a forum for us all, I know I'll get the understanding here that I need so desperately. Thanks!

Hello,

I have been a CNA for about 35 yrs now. Started when I was 15 yr old. Boy was it different back then...we didn't use gloves, didn't have lifts to help tranfer patients..I could go on about the differences. I also am a TMA and pass med's in Nursing Homes. Now I work as a Home Health aide in a assisted living. Good luck to all the New CNA's. It's a hard job but it has so many rewards.

Anyone have advice for a new cna looking for a job in a Philadelphia hospital?
