Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.
I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.
:welcome: Happy Posting!
Hey, everybody! I'm Erica, and I am starting classes to be a nurse assistant in 2 weeks. Here in Ohio they call it STNA (State Tested Nursing Assistant) The classes is only 2 weeks long 8 hours a day and the cost of the class is only $590 and includes the cost of taking my certification exam! I think that's a great deal! I decided to become an STNA because I want to go to nursing school and know this will be a good way to get my foot in the door. (Hopefully some company will help me pay to be a nurse!!) I've been a pharmacy tech at our local hospital for a couple of years now, and I want a job with direct patient contact. I love helping people!!
this message is to erica in dayton, ohio (mrsraisincain). congradulations on starting your classes. i am almost through with mine. all 9 weeks of class and 2 1/2 weeks of clinicals!! if you need any help you can pm me. you are getting off lucky with just two weeks of class but i'd rather pay the price i paid instead! ($160.00 class and books)

Hi all CNAs!
I have been a CNA for three years and in December will have also have been a MedTech for a year! I am currently entering my junior year of RN school!
I am thrilled by this amazing world of nursing, though a bit daunted by it. In my own niche, with my own routine, I am fine. But brand new situations make me a bit unsure. I hate feeling like I know nothing and want to give my best to all patients.
Any advice against the jitters for more experienced CNAs/nurses?
I don't understand why CNA's don't get the respect they are due. Why many LPN, RN's think they can be bossed around. After all they are nurses also. According to the Websters Dictionary, the definition of a nurse is: a person that take care of the sick or infirmed. I think we need to push the board in each state to have 3 levels of skill.

Hi Simplylyn,
I took a CNA course here in CA last year, and I'm in RN school now, so I don't need the book anymore. If you like, PM me your address and I'll send you the book. It's "Successful Nursing Assistant Care", by Diana Dugan (2002).:)

Hi everyone! My name is Christine and I'm in about the 8th or 9th week of my CNA bookwork, we start clinicals in about 1 1/2 weeks. I chose to take the CNA class to gain perspective on the nursing field, so when I get into the LPN program I know about what to expect! Hopefully I am not too far off.
