Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.
I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.
:welcome: Happy Posting!
Hi everyone. I have been a CNA since 2001. I have worked in nursing homes, home health care, and in hospitals. I love working in the hospital because I feel I have learned a lot more than anywhere else. I have worked on the med surg units. In the past 2 years I have been on the neuro unit. It's very interesting.
I'm a mother of 4. My two youngest ones are 16 yrs old and 9 yrs old. I have been trying to finish my nursing degree. We recently moved so now I'm going to hopefully be able to sign up for the spring semester and start my A&P classes. My pre-reqs are already done. I look forward to becoming an RN someday. I enjoy being a CNA but I have been wanting to become a RN for a long time. I can't wait. I'm working 7pm to 7am nocs and love it. I love the 3 12hr shifts.
Take care everyone!
Hello all!I am a brand new CNA, only certified 2 weeks now. I am one semester away from graduating as an LPN (December 15, 2006 WOO HOO!) and will begin working as a CNA this week. I needed to earn some extra $$ to get through this semester, so I decided working as a CNA would not only accomplish that goal, but provide me with valuable experience as well.
I am looking forward to chatting with other CNA's!
Peace all~
Looks like I'm not the only UT fan here. I am from Tennessee. I was raiosed in Oliver Springs by my grandparents, I now live in Macon, Georgia but I am a 10acgirl always no matter where I lay my head!
Hey there...I'm Holly...I've been working as a PCT (basically a CNA that can draw blood, haha) at a local hospital on the Vascular floor for almost 4 months now. I recieved my CNA cert this past January (that's also when I started nursing school). I think working as a tech is really going to help me as a nurse...I'm learning/seeing things that my classmates have not yet experienced. I stumbled upon allnurses last night at work...can't wait to get to know you all a little better! :)

Calling All Goergia & Tennessee CNA'S, I need a position in a Medical Office. Thats where I really wanna be at. I don't like the 12 hr. shifts at a hospital when they should be an 8 hr. shift instead bcuz U can get burnt out quick on them when you got up to 12 pt. to manage. I want a more organized :know exactly whats gonna take place : position more than a running arouind lika chicken with your head cut off place. I live in Macon, Georgia.

I have to ask, how did you get your T logo I would like one too.
Whoo Hooo! a nursing assistant forum! Thanks guys!It is great to interact with people that really know what we all go through day to day.
I have worked as a CNA for about 12 years, and did this work for "free" before that. Geriatrics seemed to be born in me.....
Have done LTC (have promised my family I will no longer do that....not much left for them at the end of a day), hospice, and home health. Lots of overlapping patients, and ten hour days. Now, I am part time with a private duty patient, who is a real gem, and I love it AND her, but bored bored bored!
Great to hear from some nursing assistants who care about what they are doing! Any of you "carreer aides"? (that is, not planning to go on to nursing?)
I have been a CNA since 2003. I have worked 2 ALF's and 1 Hospital. I do want to work in a medical office though. I feel its more settled and not so rush rush. Don't get me wrong I love being a CNA but I just want a different challenge. I am training with Video, DVD, and Billing & Coding modules. I know it will not certify as a Medical Assistant, but it will give me the skills I need to know to work in a Medical Office. CNA's CAN WORK in a medical office because I have read much of it on the internet that they can. So,.... why is it soo hard getting a job in a medical office as a CNA?
Hey all,
Been a CNA for almost 6 yrs now. I can't wait to use all my people skills and expierence towards being a real nurse! lol
As one person posted here, our job can be back-breaking but it is WELL WORTH IT! The gratification I get from knowing I've made some small difference in a pt's (and family) day or week (or however long) is WONDERFUL! I still keep in touch with a handful of pt's I took care of (over a year ago), very rewarding.
To all the CNA's who are in the midst of nursing school or will be there soon, keep on trucking (I sure am!) and don't give up!
hi,
i started as a cna later got my lvn (lpn), took a long time but went on to get my rn and later went on to become a family nurse practitioner. i wanted first off to thank all the dedicated cna's for all their hard work, you are such an important part of the team providing patient care.
i also wanted to let cna's that are interested (most probably already know) that in california you can 'challenge' the lvn if you have 51 months of experience--all you need is a pharmacology course, yes, that's it. its under 'method 3'.
i teach the pharm class and know that many out of state cna's will get licensed in ca and depending on their state requirements are able to transfer the license to their own state. i wish i had known about this many years ago because i could of gotten my rn a lot faster (many programs have an lvn to rn option where you can complete the program in half the time just by having the lvn)
just wanted to throw that out there for those who don't know about it, look into it, its nice that the board recognizes that experience means quite bit and is willing to give you credit'
again, thanks to all the cna's out there!
