California's 2011 New Grad Program

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

Here is an update regarding UCSD. I just spoke with the nurse recruiter and she informed me that there are about 30 internal applicants that are being considered first and if they do not fill all the new grad spots then they will look at external candidates. She informed me that this process will take approximately 3-4 weeks. So everyone who applied who is an external candidate, put your "patient caps" on because it seems like this is going to take some time :uhoh3:. Oh she also informed that depending on the new grad position you applied for, each department may have a different start start date, anywhere from the end of June to the beginning of August.

Thanks for the information! :uhoh3: :hdvwl: :nurse:

So I just got off the phone with Fountain Valley Hopsital and they said that if they haven't called you wouldn't be getting an interview. They have contacted everyone that they plan on interviewing. On to the next Hospital...

Thanks AZWildcatRN for the update which isn't too promising if they have 30 internal candidates and only 15 new grad positions were posted...

Awww... I'm sorry about that! It is extremely tough out there. They only called 150 people back for the initial interview and will be taking only 15 people. Also, I heard units like Peds and NICU aren't hiring so if it was your top two choice it kinda sucks. =[

Soooooo frustrating that they only have 15 open positions, especially when they are practically only considering (at the moment) 30 internal candidates. Well, all I can hope for is that maybe... just maybe the internals want other units than what I applied for. One can only hope right. LOL.

I applied the first day that the application was opened...and my last name starts w/A...and I still haven't received my denial letter yet...but I'm sure that it's coming as I don't have a BSN...but hey - no news is good news at this point!! :)

Just got the news...rejected from USC. Maybe I should start printing them out so I can have a bonfire at the beach.... :)

And then we can also hope that if they do hire from the internal applicants that it will create open positions in those departments...Keep the faith!

OMG! Are they really going to interview 150?1 in 10 shot, but I have no idea how many people are actually applying for the same unit :/ so it could be 1 in 5 or 1 in 20.

Ok, USC rejection letter received lol

It isn't so bad...! I remember a year ago, there was nothing for the new grads! I see this as a sign of improvement! Hopefully, the economy will improve and all new grads will be picky again when it comes to their 1st jobs!

Several from my graduating class last year just got new grad jobs so there is hope if you have been waiting for a job for a year! :) I'm so happy for them. They are ADN nurses too, not BSN.
