When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)
First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?
I believe its the exam but not sure. I got an appointment to go into the nurse recruiting office and all they told me was to bring a copy of my license, certs and contact info on one reference. Thanks for the best wishes. I was reading on another thread that it takes super long to actually get the job, but it may be a good oppertunity.
Hello, I just got an interview with Harbor UCLA as well and may I ask what type of interview it was? Did they give you a test? How many recruiters were there? And any updates on the job process so far? Hope everything is going well! :)
I had my interview with LA County on Monday and they said I should receive a letter within 2-3 weeks to let me know if I passed the interview. After that she said I can call the various county hospitals to see if they are hiring and if so then I can schedule an interview with the unit manager.
thanks for sharing! I just received a call for an interview (i think it's just an initial one) and I just had some questions... So by getting an interview that doesn't necessarily mean that they have open positions? May I ask for an update on how the process is going so far? thank you sooo much!! :) Hope everything's is going well!

hi; i just want to know how to apply in LA county hospitals?
do they accept new grad?
Thanks
I would not move there unless you had a job lined up. I know 2 nurses who had to move to Texas to get experience. If you have no kids, and are single. GO FOR IT!! I also heard that many states aren't hiring out of state CA New Grad residents because they know they will quit in 2 years and move back to California. Good luck to you

My initial interview was with HR at LA USC County Hospital. I actually just received a letter in the mail stating that I passed the exam (interview) and my name is placed on the eligible list for registered nurse positions. When I had my interview, the lady interviewing me informed me that once I receive my exam result then I can start calling the various county hospitals to determine if they have any open positions. So the interview allows you to be placed on the eligible list, it doesn't mean there are positions available. I actually accepted another position as a RN, therefore I will not continue with the process. Hopefully this helps some :)
I didn't get chosen by USC to continue the interview/hiring process. I guess there were 850+ applicants and only 10 new grad positions.
wow.... i cant believe that many people with only 10 positions. I know a couple of people who didn't get pick to continue also; however, they wrote about their passion for working in the ER and peds. USC is a speciality hospital with no ER or peds unit. My boyfriend is a med student there.
