When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)
First off, When did you graduate?
2011 New Grad Opportunities in California. Anyone waiting on hearing back after applying?

Dameron Hospital has a Versant Residency New Grad Program
But it says applications process TBA
Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?
Cedars-Sinai is interviewing...I had a quick phone interview with them yday. In person interview will be conducted next week. Any one else?
They called me yesterday out of the blue. I never got an emailing warning me of the phone interview, so I was totally not prepared. Oh well =\
I applied to the Northridge program on April 18th. So far, no interview. The nurse recruiter let me know that if I successfully completed the nursing career battery, then they'd schedule me for an interview. But from what I heard, a lot of people apparently fail that assessment, so who knows how I did. I hope to hear back from either one of these hospitals soon!

Hi Ms. Informed! they called me out of the blue too!! I remember emailing the recruiter my resume about a month ago, but that was about it. I was sooo unprepared at 11 AM. I barely got out of bed when i got the call. Anyways, I heard next week is the open house thing for Cedars where we will be interviewing with the nurse managers. So if we get an interview/ call back for the open house it will be next week.
Well, I graduated in 12/2010, took my NCLEX in 03/2011:nurse: got a job by 04/26/2011:yeah:. RN new grad positions seem to be open more in Southern CA. I live in the Central Valley. I'm not in a hospital, I'm at a subacute facility. I'm on call too. Not exactly my dream job, but I'm a mom of 2 school aged kids.
I can't really just get up and move to Texas or Southern CA. The pay is only $3 less than the New Grads at nearest hospital. So I'm not complaining. I like it and feel very lucky:D. I work 3-5 days a week. I job searched for hours. I also did cold calling to HR departments and tons of walk ins. I was offered had 3 job offers and I felt this one was my best pick to build experience, you have to really put yourself out there. I would call every HR department I got a rejection letter from, and asked what could I do to make myself more desirable. Dameron has been TBA for almost a year already. I wouldn't hold my breath on that hospital.
What is a nursing career battery test??
And what do you say when you cold call HR or recruiters? I think about doing this, but then I have NO idea what to say, because you can check the status of your application online basically everywhere.
I'm thinking I need to change up my approach to getting another interview.

It was a test that was similar to a personality test. It's very subjective, and in my opinion, very stupid. It's broken down into three different sections: work-related judgment, work style, and background experience.
If you're more interested, I would suggest checking out this link. It gives more info, and even provides a few sample questions

When I would cold call, I stared it off with, Hi my name is ......I recently filled out an application for Blank position and I wanted to do a follow-up or check on my status with the position. I very interested in position because " relate it to the position" I believe I'm the right candidate because of my strengths in "relate it to the position". For cold calling completely, I would call and explain that I wanted to know if they were hiring for RNs. If they said yes than I would explain I'm a new grad with good references, and strengths in "relate it the position" and I have previous work experience in....... I would like to fill out an application or submit my resume. It is hard:confused: and confusing. I just put myself out there as much as I could. Walking in to places is good because they can see you, if your lucky a supervisor or DON may even be there. If they are try to set up an appointment with. Confidences shows!!! My school had us do elevator pitches and mock interviews. Out of my classmates, me and one other student both got jobs from cold-calling and walk ins. It is worth a try
