So I've heard this God awfull rumor that you absolutelly NEED, and HAVE to have your BSN to work in the state of Texas. I'd never heard of this before, and frankly sounds kinda silly, but hey, it might be true.

So I'm asking any Texas RN's ... is this true? Do you guys all have your BSN? :nurse:

i want to add that i have a bsn however some of the best nurses i have ever worked with are lvn's and associate degree nurses. i did it merely for graduate study and i was very comfortable at the associate level. there are just not enough bsn prepared nurses to go around and cover all the hospitals ,community centers and other places that rn's work. its just like the rumor that lvn's are being eliminated ....just not true....

The Methodist hospital system in Houston only hires BSN nurses now.

Is it true that in Texas, 75% of the nurses are men?
This is not true in Texas, or in any state for that matter. Nursing is a profession that is still very much dominated by females.

Actually, only Methodist in The Medical Center requires a BSN; all the other locations will accept ADN. However, Methodist is notorious for almost always choosing BSN over ADN applicants, regardless (frequently) of qualifications. It's just their thing.

Half the RN's in Texas have an Associates per the TBON. This is a continuation of a pipe dream that started in 1964 with certain aspects of Texas nursing politics trying to "phase out" ADN's. For god's sakes we still have LVN's at major Houston hospitals.
