BSN needed to work in Texas?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

So I've heard this God awfull rumor that you absolutelly NEED, and HAVE to have your BSN to work in the state of Texas. I'd never heard of this before, and frankly sounds kinda silly, but hey, it might be true.

So I'm asking any Texas RN's ... is this true? Do you guys all have your BSN? :nurse:

Harris Hospital District, Methodist in the med center, and St. Luke's require a BSN. Texas Children's states that a BSN is preferred.

lmao!!!

yes, haven't you heard? it is a goal to get rid of all male nurses here in california by 2012! lol..... point taken!

okay guys, make yourselves useful and tell me.... what are the best places to work in dallas that are not hospitals. well, maybe a hospital, but what i'm really looking for is a m-f job. dallas is huge!... and i wouldn't know where to start looking, i'm sure they have to have a lot of surgery centers, and/or gi labs, so .... help me out... guys! ;)

Check out uspi. They own a ton of surgery centers in DFW and around Texas.

Last May ( 2014 ) I moved to the McKinney, TX area to be closer to my son and his family. I am a ADN ICU nurse with 30 yrs experience, ACLS, TNCC, ...all the stuff you have to have. I put in 30 applications Dallas, Plano, Denton, McKinney and a few other towns. I also put in to the VA, and several independent school districts. I have no disciplinary actions against me and my former bosses gave me good references. I have good attendance. For 3 months, not one single place called me/e-mailed me/ anything me!. I tried to follow up with some of them but could not get through to anyone who could help me or answer any of my questions. The next month 6 Nurse managers called me , but all wanted me to sign a paper saying I would enter a BSN program and finish it within 2 years if they hired me. Since I am 62, I told them I would not be able to do that. I would never see a financial return on my investment in the amount of years I have left to work. Several agreed with me and stated they really wanted to hire me, but their hospitals required a BSN. I felt it was probably not true that most required this, but then, I was still unemployed. After 2 more months, I called my old boss in Florida and was rehired , so I moved away. Since I have been back in Florida, I have a few more Texas calls....all wanting a BSN. I know this cannot to case for every hospital, but I still didn't get a job:)

I graduated with my ADN almost two years ago and I have been rejected by every major hospital in DFW. I'm sure ADNs can get a job at nursing homes or in home care, but it's not my ideal job. I'm in the process of getting my BSN. I'm sure there is some database that eliminates ADNs and they never see your resume. Better go for your BSN and get it over with.
