"What is BODY WORLDS ?

Created by anatomist and licensed physician Dr. Gunther von Hagens, the BODY WORLDS exhibition is the world's first public anatomical presentation using Plastination, his groundbreaking method of specimen preservation. The display of approximately 200 authentic organs, organ configurations, and a broad collection of whole-body plastinates offers an unprecedented view of the human body. Visitors will be able to observe the body's functions, including locomotive, digestive, nervous and vascular systems, and compare healthy and diseased organs such as a healthy lung with that of a smoker's lung. This exhibit is at the Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas Texas. Has anyone seen this or planning to? I plan on trying to go in a few weeks. I think this will be so cool. Also helpful since I am taking A & P.

There have been other posts regarding this exhibit. I saw this exhibit in Los Angeles in July 2004 (My gift from my SO for my birthday - a true nursing student here). It's beyond fabulous!

I saw this in Boston, MA. It was quite the experience and eye opening for those of us with unhealthy habits.

I live in Las Vegas and we have Bodies at the Tropicana Hotel. I went and saw it and it was absolutely fascinating. The bodies don't look "real" for some reason but it is truly amazing. It doesn't smell funny--(most people assume it will) and is not "gross" as a lot of people expect that it would be. All I kept thinking was "who were you" every time I looked at an exhibit. I had my A&P flashcards with me in my purse and it was a great to see everything up close and personal. I think it's well worth the price.

In late 2004 I attended the Body World exhibit at the University of Southern California with my LVN class. It was interesting, but I must mention that the place had a musty stench due to the old body parts on display.

I am planning to go see the exhibit in a few weeks. Our professor mentioned last semester (in A&P 1) that he is going to make it a requirement for everyone in his A&P 2 class to go check it out. I can't wait - I think it will be beyond interesting!

I went in Spring 2006 when the exhibit was in Houston, Texas at the Museum of Natural Science. I paid the few extra dollars to get the headphones that give you an audio tour. I thought it was going to give me a more in-depth experience. However, the audio just plays the captions on each exhibit. :trout:

I thought it was pretty short! By the time it got to the end of the exhibit, I was so surprised. I ended up spending about an hour and a half there. Some people were in and out in 30 minutes.

I have a question for those of you who have seen the exhibit...

My son (5th grader) is very interested in the human body and liked to follow my A&P classes last semester. Do you think this exhibit would be appropriate for a (fairly mature and very serious) school aged child? The exhibit will be opening at the Detroit Science Center next week, and I would really like to take him, but not if it would disturb him in any way...
