Biggest Payday

Does anyone care to share the amount of their BIGGEST pay check as a nurse? I know that most of us chose this career because we love to care for others, but a very good paycheck is always an extra incentive. So with that said, does anyone care to share?

I'm not a nurse yet, 4 more weeks until graduation, but I have been offered a $5,000 sign on bonus. This is alot of money for a broke college student.:specs:

one week i did 73 hours = $6125 gross with incentives... I'm not a CRNA either.

Last perm job I got a 15k sign on bonus + 7500 relocation plus 10k student loan repaid, an 8k retention bonus at end of year.

$5k sign on ok for new grad, not enough to make me sit up and bark though. Main question you should ask em is, will yall pay off my student loans?

That wouldn't be rude to ask them that. Like the only reason I'm working here is so yall can pay off my student loans.

I'm loving those figures..lol

Years ago when I worked a lot of OT I made more than the DON made that pay period, at least that's what she told me.:lol2: Today that would look like a paltry sum. In the early 70's I had a friend who's mom was a head nurse on a unit, she demanded a raise, she got $7.00 an hour!:uhoh21: That was a very l;ong time ago! OUCH!!!!

I usually run into the 6-7000 range for gross per pay period. I have had a few paychecks in the 9-10000 for a pay period for a net of about 7-8000. This is with alot of OT and double time. No I am not a CRNA. Mike

How ofen do you get paid?

How ofen do you get paid?

Twice a month, but those figures are for my best months in the past. Now, I usually average about 5-6000 a pay period which would be about 10-12000 a month. I don't mind telling anyone that I made about 130,000 last year. I don't work agency or anything like that. I DO work my a*s off though. I live up in NorCal and still work down in SoCal. When I am at work all I do is work! My days can go from 10 hours a day to sometimes more than 16. I work a regular 10hr day 4 days a week at one hospital, then i work a few am's at a "sister" hospital, so all that time is either OT or DT. I also work a few am's at a local SurgiCenter that pays well. So it all adds up to if you want it bad enough you will work for it. I am able to put away in my 403b retirement almost 1000-1500 a month, so it is well worth it. Also, having 30 years of experinece in the OR helps alot too.

First of all if you are a Nurse, you are a hot enough commodity to be in a position to ask for loan repay, sign-on, etc.

due diligence is not rude. You wouldn't want to make an important decision without having all the facts would you?

Most hospitals in the country will pay back your student loans, unless they are broke (or don't value nurses), in which case, they can't afford you anyways so don't even consider them. The ones that value nurses will pay your loans back, possibly sign-on bonus, and relocation.

It is not rude if you are being offered a job to negotiate and also to tell the person offering about the other offers you have and what it would take to get you on board.

I make a lot of money, yes. But you have to ask for it in order to get it. Also you have to be able to fill a need that they have. That week I made bank I wasn't working mommy hours. It was long shifts on short notice, with incentive pay and all that.

We used to get incentives for working extra days. I'm not at a point where I need to work a lot of overtime and haven't taken home monster checks. If I have a goal, like when I was buying my house, I'll work one extra shift a week. My paychecks during that time were about $2500 every two weeks. I did this for about six months.

I haven't worked any OT lately because of school. I can't think of a time where I worked more than an extra 12 hour shift in a week, so I don't have any killer paychecks to report. Except for a paycheck that had my usual 72 hours (3 12's a week) and 100 hours of vacation that I cashed in. That was a sweet check of nearly $4000

Obviously, by now you can see if you're willing to work a lot, there's money to be made. It's nice to be in a profession where that's an option in some places. Nothing wrong with that. Good luck!

Not an intrusive question at all! It would only be an intrusive question if you asked a specific person directly.

I get £2700 per month... thats a Mon-Fri 9-5 job. No overtime/shifts. After tax etc, works out to about £2000, which is about $3500, but I guess thats not much help to you in the States...

inturesting though

Wwill you pay off my student loans?"

That is the question I'm going to ask. None of that namby-pamby $5k bonus or $2k of the student loan for full time. I'll work for you for if you pay of my ENTIRE STUDENT LOAN DEBT. Considering I may do a direct Masters at $37K, that is a fair trade. :lol2:

My largest check working in healthcare was $6k for 18 days work as a surg tech for a plastic surgeon. Alas, it was a one time gig....

This is an interesting thread....

In Ontario all public employees, and that includes nurses, who make over $100,000 a year are on a public list that is published and open for anyone to see, the 'high rollers' regularly get their name in the local paper, so we all know exactly what our CEO and VP of nursing makes. There are always at least one or two nurses who make the list in every hospital in the province. As everyone (unionized RN's) makes the same in the province we all know these are the nurses who work lots of overtime and extra weekends etc. So it's not impossible to make decent money here.
