Biggest Payday

Published

Does anyone care to share the amount of their BIGGEST pay check as a nurse? I know that most of us chose this career because we love to care for others, but a very good paycheck is always an extra incentive. So with that said, does anyone care to share?

I'm not a nurse yet, 4 more weeks until graduation, but I have been offered a $5,000 sign on bonus. This is alot of money for a broke college student.:specs:

Specializes in NICU, Psych, Education.
WOW!!! I want to work where you work!!! :yelclap:

LOL. Judging by the nickname and the check, I think it's safe to assume that this poster is a CRNA. :)

Specializes in Geriatrics, Cardiac, ICU.
I don't understand what is so intrusive about the question. She isn't asking what your hourly rate is, just how much was the BIGGEST paycheck you have ever had? Unless we knew you, why would you care? Just throw something out there for pete's sake..

Exactly what I was thinking.:uhoh3:

I am sorry, I was just saying how I feel and I do understand that others may feel sharing is okay and that is fine by me. For years I worked in family owned establishments and always had it drilled into me there and other places to never, ever share your salary with anyone as that is very personal information. Also there are people on here I know and I would not want them to know.

I guess I am just being old school and behind the times....

I've always been leary of sign on bonuses. They tend to make me wonder what is wrong with the place if they gotta bribe ya with thousands of dollars to go to work for them! Always short staffed etc.... etc.....

I wouldn't say your behind the times... Just don't know the real reason this practice started. This is a management employee satisfaction thing. If you make more then someone that does the same job they might get mad at the managers and deside they hate the job. Many times they won't even stop to ask if there is a reason. I knew I made most then other managers at one job because I had more experience from other jobs. Why let them get mad about it because they are ignorant.

In a case like this is doesn't really matter. If you told your normal pay, and another nurse was on the boards and found out you made more they might get ticked, but that is not the question.

I'm not a nurse yet So my biggest check would be off topic but I brought home $1950 for one week. Lots of overtime in a factory...lol.

Got a retro paycheck of 26,000 for the two years were we out of a contract (got a $13/hr raise backdated for 2 years)that plus my regular pay of 3500 (includes 24 hrs OT). I was elated. :biggringi Never happen again I am sure.

Specializes in O.R., ED, M/S.

I usually run into the 6-7000 range for gross per pay period. I have had a few paychecks in the 9-10000 for a pay period for a net of about 7-8000. This is with alot of OT and double time. No I am not a CRNA. Mike

one week i did 73 hours = $6125 gross with incentives... I'm not a CRNA either.

Last perm job I got a 15k sign on bonus + 7500 relocation plus 10k student loan repaid, an 8k retention bonus at end of year.

$5k sign on ok for new grad, not enough to make me sit up and bark though. Main question you should ask em is, will yall pay off my student loans?

I think this is the point that kukukajoo is making: You might get a lot more responses if you ask something like, 'Can anyone tell me the salary range for a new grad in X specialty in X state?'

Sometimes when the question is posed directly about our own personal paycheck, it makes some people feel uncomfortable and less willing to give a straight answer.

I don't know why people feel like their pay rates are such big secrets.

Really.....

And of course, no one is twisting anyone else's arm and pressing their faces against the computer monitor forcing them to respond, anyway.

Wow, you made that in one week?

Specializes in Emergency Room.

A better question might be "Where do you live, what dept do you work, and how much do you make? Salary varies so much between the coasts.....I am an ER RN, and average $1000/pay period. Top check was $1600 with OT. I live in the midwest.
