Congratulations!!! Please, put the " just an LPN " phrase out of your vocabulary, LPN's are a very important link in the food chain!!!!! As are CNA's, housekeepers, maintenance etc. Good luck in your endeavors.

I received my letter today from LPN school! From my other posts--you may already know that I have a seat in an RN program--but its farther away and ALOT more expensive. Sooo...now my decision is made--LPN school starts in August. This may not be the most favorable route for everyone else(my family)--but it's my decision and I'm the one who has to live it--and this is how I need to go. And I may be "just an LPN" for awhile (or forever--who know?!)--but I don't see the harm! Thanks to all who have given me advice on the situation....I know I'm not the only one who's been here!

Im an LPN and I respect my title we may not be at the top rung of the ladder but we do great work and get paid just as much. GO FOR IT! you'll get experience and get paid too then u can go for your RN, work hard and have fun good luck!

For anyone else that has a child in high school that may consider nursing school...

My neice has been talking about getting her RN degree (she is in the 10th grade in high school and does very well in school). When she said she had the option to graduate from school an entire year early, but wasn't sure if she wanted to be "younger and in college"...this is a scenerio I gave to her and she is seriously considering it....

With the exception of Junior and Senior English and Gov't...she has all of her college-prep pre-req's completed. The local vocational school (some people call it "shop") has an LPN program, that lasts for two years...but when these students graduate from high school they already have their LPN.

She can attend the local CC, LPN-to-RN bridge program...which is only for one year...that way she can be 19 years old, an RN, and then work on her BSN in her spare time and the RN degree will cost her about $3,000.

I thought this was a great option for her...and another route to consider!

I got my LPN first and don't regret it one bit. I went back for my RN after 15 years as an LPN(life interrupted!!), did the LPN-RN bridge. I was MUCH more prepared for the RN program with all the experience + my hospital paid for it!!

I think my families issue is the pay....I know my mother knows what she's talkin about because she went back at 40 w/ two kids. But I'm sooo thankful all of you are supportive of this! I DO have a plan to become an RN--it's just more round-about than the direct RN program..

And that is exactly what I did Im 18 graduated H.S 6 mo ago and got my PN license thru a nursing program at my H.S I am going to school for my RN and plan on working as an LPN it helps to have my PN license because I have more experience on nursing as far as clinical rotation, and subject material which means my path 2 b an RN will be a little easier. I can work and make my own $ very appealing to any teenager! Only $3,000 to get her RN thats good the school I attend it will b around $ 93,000 to get my BSN that's because its a university but I think she should do it, I wouldn't want to be 2 young in college either but nothing compares to being able to have a stable career and make a decent penny at the same time!

Hi- I'm going through a similar situation. I have a seat in a LPN program starting in Sept 07. Ive been doing more research about different programs and I read about the accelerated BSN program. I already have my BS in Business Administration. Ive contacted a few schools and the one that I am most interested in has 7 pre-reqs that are required prior to starting the program. Two pre-reqs would transfer from my previous degree. The thing thats causing me a lot of confusion and wondering what to do is- do I give up my seat in the LPN class? I wouldnt be able to apply to the Accelerated program until Jan 2008. So I am nervous about this- Is it worth the risk and take the chance that I may be accepted or do I stay w/ the LPN class and then continue on from there?
