Over a month ago, I applied with WGU. I was told by the enrollment counselor that as long as my transcripts were received by Sept. 15, 2015 I could start October 1st. I had my transcripts expedited over night with one school, paying over 50.00 for over night delivery, I had one school send them electronically for 28.00. The third put them in the mail the same day, they will not electronically send or do over night shipping.
Spoke with the enrollment counselor a few days later, she said she needed my resume and license number. No problem, got that sent to her. We are still on go for October 1st. I start getting emails from the enrollment counselor, stating that they haven't received my transcripts from school #2. I tell her that I received an email stating that they had. She said, "Oh, okay." Got another email stating she didn't get my resume, I resent it, she said she didn't get my license verification. I resend it. I get another email stating that they have received all proper transcripts, that they will be calling to set up an appointment.
Another week goes by, I send an email to the enrollment counselor about the "intake" interview. She calls me and tells me that they haven't received my transcripts. SAY WHAT?!? I tell her to go look again. Now, I am told that October 1st start date is a no go. I will be starting Nov.1st. Alright, I am okay with that.
Today, 10-01-15, I get a call from the enrollment counselor once again, she says that they haven't received my transcripts. I.Lost.My.Cool! I forwarded every single email to this dumb woman stating that all of my transcripts have been received by the WGU transcript department. I resent my resume and license verification as well. She told me that November 1st may not be a go as well if they haven't figured it out. I told her that I will be applying to other schools now, if they can't "figure" out how to do their job. I am beyond livid with my enrollment counselor.
Has anyone else had this problem with WGU?
I had absolutely no issues with enrollment even with transcripts from 4 different schools. I started the process 8/14 and it all went as planned, starting as scheduled 11/14. I hope they can help you get this all smoothed out without having to go through another school as you've invested a good amount of time already at WGU and it really is a great program although nothing is ever perfect (obviously LOL). Good luck!
Asystole...I thought they only allowed you to start on the 1st of every month.
I also had 4 transcripts sent to the school.. I was sent an email after each transcript was received by the school. It took 6 days from the last transcript received till I got a credit evaluation.... My enrollment counselor is AMAZING...
No school is perfect, but your experience sounds extremely frustrating. I am praying now that my mentors are just as amazing as my enrollment counselor.
Good luck!
I can't imagine WGU doing things to just get fees and leave people hanging. They have a good reputation and I can't imagine they would do anything to harm that. Not on purpose anyway. I've been enrolled for over a year and will have my BSN in March. I've had a great experience with them. I hope you find a solution by emailing the person in a previous post.
I do think that the enrollment process is quite disorganized in the past couple years. They've grown so much, very quickly (not just nursing, but the school as a whole) and I imagine there is a high turnover/need for enrollment. These people have to know a little about EVERY program, so they're jacks of all trades, but masters of none. As a result, the enrollment process is very discombobulated.
I can assure you, though, once you're in the program, the mentors assisting you are experts at the subject content and in navigating the individual classes, and you will not be hung out to dry. I've rarely had to reach out to a class mentor, but when I have, they were prompt, knowledgeable and INCREDIBLY helpful. One spent 30 minutes on the phone with me, helping me figure out a particularly complicated task (it was my MSN EBP/lit review class) - at 5:30 in the AM, because that's the time that worked best for me. Not only that, but she then called me back 2 hours later because something else had occurred to her regarding my specific question that she wanted to share/mention. The "customer service" of the course mentors has been nothing short of incredible, in my vast experience at WGU.
In addition, I imagine there's some employee turnover for the enrollment counselors since they do not earn a great deal of money, yet appear to have a heavy workload. I looked at one Glass Door posting that indicated they earn about $36,000 annually.I do think that the enrollment process is quite disorganized in the past couple years. I finally got my intake interview completed on Wednesday. But now my wgu email account is completely locked. "IT is aware of this problem and has no idea when it will be fixed." Per phone from the nursing department. It's just one thing after another. I am still waiting for my student mentor to call me. On the bright side, I only have 32 units to complete.
Sounds like we had the same enrollment counselor.
I almost didn't get to start when I did because she never told me I needed to send a resume. When we talked near the 15th of the month prior to when I was intending to start, she told me I couldn't because they didn't have my resume yet. That's the first I'd heard of them wanting my resume, and we'd been in the enrollment process for months. It took about two minutes for me to email my resume after she said that. Such an idiotic thing to cause a hold-up.
Checked back through the emails. No previous mention of a resume.
Thankfully, once I got through the enrollment process, everything else went smoothly.
My enrollment experience was AWFUL! If I had not known someone who has been through the program there is no way I would have continued with this school based on the misinformation I kept receiving. I urge you to contact the fellow that reached out to you (Doug Smeath), he put me in touch with someone who was able to help. If not for him, I would not be in this program now. I had a horrible enrollment councilor, requested a new one, got a great one for ONE phone call, then was reassigned to another horrible one who was brand new. They seem completely unfamiliar with the enrollment process. Once you get in, its the same roll of the dice with Mentors. I got a good one thank goodness, but I have seen some horror stories. You can request a mentor before you start so if you hear of a good one, do that. One of those "get what you pay for " deals I guess. I am saving so much on my degree it is worth the hassle of having to be on top of things myself.

I had a similar problem with transcripts, but finally after lots of time and frustration, I got it resolved. Please don't give up, after the initial issues, I've had no problems and absolutely love WGU.
