  1. Oh no, I have to say I'm in the running for the worst ever. I blamed mine on the non-existent ostomy patient down the hall
  2. I had absolutely no issues with enrollment even with transcripts from 4 different schools. I started the process 8/14 and it all went as planned, starting as scheduled 11/14. I hope they can help you get this all smoothed out without having to go through another school as you've invested a good amount of time already at WGU and it really is a great program although nothing is ever perfect (obviously LOL). Good luck!
  3. We don't simply say, hey housekeeping don't clean that bed, let's F#! $ with the ED. Seriously we usually have 2 housekeepers in the evening for 350 beds and one for nights. So seriously not the nurses fault. We know as floor nurses that there's a huge push to get ED pts to the floor. Doesn't sound like you've worked the floor with the challenges the floor faces too. But oh wait, that's not as nearly as important my bad. I don't need to know when their last bm was. I k ow they have an IV somewhere , I don't need to know half of what the ED nurse usually tells me because hey, I can read but thanks anyway. Thankfully we have good working relationships amongst our units at my current employer, there isn't much of the "we work harder than you or our patients are sicker than yours" attitudes.
  4. If I had time to read a chart why would I even need to talk to the ED nurse they never know anything usually anyway since "it's not my patient or I just took over this patient". I'm glad I don't work at the OP'S hospital as it would suck to get a report like that from the OP or even have to talk to someone with that kind of "better than thou attitude".
  5. I've worked 2 jobs for many years. Both in different Specialties/different companies, neither position is full time but they could be. I definitely don't get bored and great pay! My husband is a stay at home dad. Since nursing pays so much more than his previous career it didn't make sense to pay 25% of his check in gas to travel to work 5 days a week. And it happens to work out since both my jobs are self schedule I work fairly routine days. It's not for everyone though, but for me if I were to work full time in one job I'd go bonkers.
  6. Practice practice practice. I passed in 2 weeks with diligent studying. I just wanted to get it DONE! Good luck!
  7. It's great for reading on the go but you might not be able to access everything like task stream and community chatter etc. Good luck!
  8. I'm thinking along the same lines as you also but this was the rationale that this nurse had to make sure everyone was aware that happened. Had to fill out a UOR and notify everyone working thstvnight that the nurses had been dosing incorrectly drugs for 5 days. What the nurse didn't tell everyone is that he didn't get the correct weight after he KNEW it was blatantly wrong.
  9. I know If I came up with the initial weight I would have tried to rectify but instead he blamed the staff the next 4 days for not catching the discrepancy in weight. It just burns me that everyone was blamed but it wasn't even passed on in shift report that the weight was up 20+ kg. Yes we titrate to effect but with propofol we couldn't figure out why she was so hypotensive
  10. Ok if a nurse knows that a bed weight is off (weighing +20 kg ) wouldn't it be wise to take more action than just make a comment in the flow sheet? Especially since multiple meds are weight based? Instead of passing this info on to the next shift it was just got missed for several days . Luckily nothing major happened but the ramifications could have been deadly with the right vasopressor or sedative. Lesson learned to watch the accuracy of my patients weights more closely.
  11. I have had JP's with MD orders to flush. I do know what a JP is and certainly am not mixed up or confused about the type of drain. Different docs do things different ways apparently.
  12. Not exactly true. I bring home about 90k without overtime and have an affordable nice 2500 sqft home for 275k. UPS drivers earn every penny, their job is important too but just in a different way. If anyone's complaining about a driver making more than just move to a higher paying state and quit griping :/
  13. totalcompressionsolutions.com has awesome support socks, very soft with great support!
  14. My job does not define me. I personally like being a nurse but like others have said, at the end of the day I leave work at work. I keep home and work separate. I like my coworkers but don't socialize with them outside of the job. I don't want to talk shop. No matter what profession you choose to pursue there will always be the self entitled that you will have to deal with. They're in every aspect of nursing too so you just have to get over the expectations of thank you's because they can be few and far between.
  15. I have to ask, why did you accept a float pool position if you don't like to float? In my facility and every facility I've worked the past 20 something years it's the float nurse that always is the 1st to be floated off. I understand how it is to need a job but you have to have some personal deal breakers that you have to abide if you are to remain somewhat happy in your work life. Good luck in your future endeavors :)
