Hi Everest! The online program is nice- very flexible, HOWEVER, time consuming. The first classes aren't horrible, but once you start getting into patho and clinicals, it becomes very busy. Lots of reading. Lots of self teaching. Discussion boards, usually a paper or project and again, lots of reading. I like the program a lot and have always enjoyed the support I get from the professors and ancillary staff (Diane is amazing). PM me if you have any othe questions :)

There are a few other threads on here about what to expect from the UCCS MSN FNP experience. Here is my post from one of them. UCCS is probably just like any other online learning platform. A lot of it is reading (A LOT) and teaching yourself through discussions, case studies, etc. Our professors seem nice however I wish they used videos more often as I'm an audio learner compared to reading. My biggest quip is make sure you take great notes and print off resources because black board (the platrform they currently use) does not allow you to access previous course content once the class is over. I'm extremely nervous about clinicals. I have been looking for fall 2018 for about a month and so far I've had a lot of "no"s or no responses. I've been told they haven't had an issue with this; however, I'll say I'm starting to panic. I've been in a year, go part time and work full time. Its a lot of work and time consuming. Take GREAT notes. Teach yourself. Realize this is a time commitment.

Hi all, I'm in the FNP program currently (Since fall 2016) with Slhengy and Tami (though different loads, I'm PT, I think Tami is FT). The work is hard, its a lot of reading and you have to really be a go-getter with your education. It really is what you make of it. With that said, I've never worried about my grades and I find I have plenty of time for a social life and I work full time as well. The biggest worry I (and I'm sure many of us do) I have is finding our own clinical preceptors. I don't start clinicals until fall 2018 and I've already received a lot of "no"s or no responses at all. So definitely network!

It depends on the hospital, I think. As far as pay, it has been said HCA pay is "comparable" to other hospitals, and that our benefits are better. If that is the case, I can't say for sure as I haven't worked at other hospitals.

YES YES YES. Hospitals are all about pushing nurses to get their BSN- only for Magnet. There is no pay increase whatsoever.

I was taking care of a patient today who told me... "your job is to make me happy". I was taken aback, but responded "my job is to make you healthy... healthy and happy, but healthy first" I feel a bit guilty, and I feel that I shouldn't. I'm amazed that a patient would tell me that my job is to make them happy. Has anyone had an experience like this or offer any words of advice?

There was a push back in the early 2000's by a group of nurses from St. A's, apparently that never worked. We need a union. I have 2 years of experience and I'm only making $25.00/hr. For the stress, anxiety and catching Dr's mistakes, I feel my worth is more than 25/ hr

I did, my email had a hiccup so I had to have it resent, but I got the info! I'm even MORE nervous now that we have our own "individual agenda". Excited, but terrified!

I understand the need for something different, new, more acute. Unfortunately, again you have to appeal to hospitals. Nurses with a BSN are more appealing than ADNs. Nurses with past acute experience are more likely to get called for interviews than those that have been working non-acute. Use connections if you have any.

I'm so nervous. I'll be easily picked out as the blonde who looks like a deer in headlights hah!

I currently work for an HCA/HealthONE facility. I know we have the lowest pay of all of the hospital systems, and also, we are a for profit system. Money is constantly the drive.

I wonder what the interview will be like. I'm a bit (a lot!) nervous about it.

Did anyone else apply? I got an email inviting me to the interview. Looking for others in a similar position!
