Best Type of Watch for Clinical Sites?

I am a tech in a hospital so I normally wear a digital and use the hospital room clocks to count respirations. Just because I feel like wearing a nice fancy dress watch would get too dirty when rolling, changing, bathing, wiping and being up close and personal with patients. Now that I am transitioning into a nursing student I need a watch with a second hand. Is there any particular style that people are raving about?

I actually bought:

Amazon.com: Wenger Swiss Military Men's 72908 "Classic Field" Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch: Watches

and I love it. It's not fabric, it shows both 12 and 24 hour. PLUS, it looks cool. >) AND CHEAP!

I just bought a simple, black watch from Walmart. When in doubt, Walmart.

Our local big chain drugstore has a display of watches targeted at kids. They have a third hand, fit adult-sized wrists, and are colorful, to say the least. They have cartoon characters or similar "people" on them and a few have logos or movie or TV - related something and range in price from $9.95 to $19.95.

I wore one for years that had Snoopy on it. His arms moved to tell the time and Woodstock moved to count the seconds. The good things were that if it somehow got broken, it wasn't a disaster. When I bought Snoopy, I also bought a Cathy watch to be a spare.

That silly Snoopy watch broke a lot of ice with the families of my psych patients, especially during admissions.

I know exactly which Snoopy watch you are talking about and I have wanted one ever since I was a kid!

Haven't got one yet though :(

Where might I find this infamous Snoopy watch?!

A Victorinox Swiss watch is a great investment. The walmart or timex type watches are not waterproof and they don't last long at all.

Go with something waterproof with a plastic/rubber wristband. I wear my Garmin Forerunner 410 running watch (digital), so I don't care if it gets wet.

I also have a cheapo leather watch I bought in a pinch that I keep in my nursing bag in case I forget my Garmin, but it's not waterproof, so I have to be more careful.

I have no problem counting pulse and respirations with a digital, personally.

I bought it in a very large CVS drugstore about 20 years ago. They still have the watch case but the designs change periodically and sometimes designs are brought back. Maybe a Target or Walmart?

Ebay might have one.

I would much rather use a digital but my school wants an analog watch with a second hand. They said if you use a digital watch your pulses will always end up being 60? I personally have never had a problem with taking a pulse or counting respirations with a digital watch and it is also helpful on my night shift when it is dark in patient rooms. I did see a leather strap Minnie Mouse that I like. Still shopping around though. Going to look for the Snoopy when I go to Wally World tomorrow.

I wear one of these...

Amazon.com: Nurses Lapel Watch - 1 Watch + Dark Blue, Light Blue, Pink Holders - Silicone (Infection Control): Wave Creations: Watches

It works great and I turn the clock upside down so all I have to do is look down and I can see the second hand.

$10 white watch from Walmart. I spent enough on scrubs. As long as my watch is white and works, they shouldn't care.
