Best Scrubs for Fatties

I am fat, and not bold and beautiful fat. I'm 5'4" and 148 lbs. I wear a size 12 if it's generous, otherwise a 14. I look small (bones, arms, below knee), but my hips are 44, waist 35, bust 43. And I'm a new grad. Yes, my goal is to lose 20-30 pounds, but that's probably on hold as my stress level just continues to stay high.

SOoooo, what's the deal with scrubs for fatties? Scrubs seem to be becoming such a fashion statement, what's a girl to do?! Do short tops look better, or is it best to go traditional long and cover up the hip area? Keep it medical like you don't care, or go all out cutsey/fashion and hope fo the best?

This is a serious question. What do all the RNs (and I know there are tons) who don't look like they run 10miles every a.m. wear?

TY.

You are far from fat!!

I am not slender. I buy most of my scrubs at Burlington Coat Factory. They have really nice sets that start at around $12 for the toop and bottom, along with some real nice prints.

im like some of you i do anything to go back weighing 148 or even better 130 lbs.

i mostly order my scrubs from catalogs. i order one time a solid black uniform which i would not do again that black would make you sweat did help to loose some of the fat. tafford and cotton has some real nice uniforms. they also have pants that would match the tops same patterns, design.

buildingmyfaith57, I wore solid black scrubs with a bright T underneath once as a student nurse intern, and a nurse pulled me aside and told me people don't like to see that color in the hospital (it was preop, I was learning to start IVs). LOL! I thought I looked hip and I DID brighten it up with the T. Oh well.

You don't sound very fat to me. You actually sound thinner than most people at that weight.

Try 5'2", small-medium bones and 210 pounds. There isn't a thing I can wear, especially scrubs, that don't make me look totally sloppy and dumpy.

But then, when you're sloppy and dumpy you can't expect to find clothes that aren't.

Too strange! I was replying to someone's (I didn't make note of who...thought it would still be here.) post saying it sounded like she had Body Dismorphic Disorder and to get some help. The post must have been removed.

I have all the symptoms of this disorder except the disturbing thing is that my perception of myself is real and not even as bad as others' perception of me so I really don't have body dysmorphic disorder, I'm just plain revolting.

Tell me about it...our school requires all black scrubs with black shoes...we're lovingly (I hope) referred to as 'the death squad' in more than a few of the local facilities.

And to get back to the OP, I love the Cherokee cargo pants with the drawstring waist (the ones with elastic pinch).

Some of the larger ladies I work with recommend a fitted shirt to wear under a scrub top. If you raise your arms, no belly skin is exposed, and if you bend over, no cleavage is shown either.

Unisex scrubs are misnamed. They are cut for men.

148 is not fat...lol 12 is thick

Yes, yes, yes!!! I always wear a long tank under my scrubs...I had to learn that lesson the hard way! My first day on orientation at my new job (I was 19, thought I was hot stuff in my brand new scrubs! :lol2:) and we worked a full arrest. Wellll, the first time I bent over to help roll the patient, everyone got a glimpse of my underoos, aaagh! Not the impression I had intended to make.

I was so mortified that now I always do the 'stretch test' in front of the mirror before leaving for work and always tuck in a tank into my pants to prevent that disaster from happening again. Works well for me, with my funky waist and ever-expanding belly. ;)

That's funny because the required color for PCTs/CNAs is black at the hospital I go to school at. I think black looks fabulous and professional.

According to the measurements you have divulged, your BMI (body mass index) is 25.4, which is only very slightly overweight. If your BMI was 24.9, you'd be considered to be within a normal weight range. So the moral of the story is that YOU ARE NOT FAT!

However, take some scrub advice from a real fattie, because I weigh over 200 pounds. Good scrubs for curvier women include Cherokee, White Swan (also known as WS Essentials), Dickies, and Urbane Scrubs.

It's time for me to hit the gym...

Hi

What a great forum :)

I am 5'1 and weigh 159. I have recently lost almost 14 pounds on weight watchers, but until I can lose about 30 more pounds, I need to find some proper fitting scrubs.

Not only am I short, but my butt is big and my hips are wide. My top is small.

I run into a problem with scrub tops, because if I get them large enuf so that the bottom of the shirt goes over my hip, the top is swimming on me.

My scrubs now are regular bottoms but I wear a regular t-shirt under a snap top jacket. I really need a V neck scrub top that fits right.

Any suggestions for the best brand to buy?

Thanks
