Best Scrubs for Fatties

I am fat, and not bold and beautiful fat. I'm 5'4" and 148 lbs. I wear a size 12 if it's generous, otherwise a 14. I look small (bones, arms, below knee), but my hips are 44, waist 35, bust 43. And I'm a new grad. Yes, my goal is to lose 20-30 pounds, but that's probably on hold as my stress level just continues to stay high.

SOoooo, what's the deal with scrubs for fatties? Scrubs seem to be becoming such a fashion statement, what's a girl to do?! Do short tops look better, or is it best to go traditional long and cover up the hip area? Keep it medical like you don't care, or go all out cutsey/fashion and hope fo the best?

This is a serious question. What do all the RNs (and I know there are tons) who don't look like they run 10miles every a.m. wear?

I would kill to weigh 148 pounds again!! :crying2:

Well, I wouldn't really kill, but I'd do almost anything else if it meant I could once again fit into the OP's definition of 'fat'................~sigh~..........

1st of all, ty for all the you're not fat posts. Technically, I am edging into the obese category, and my BMI is really hi, plus my waist is way too big (truncal obesity). Take my word for it, I don't carry it that well.

I guess I'm also totally unhealthy and zitty and feeling down on myself post nursing school-at a time when I want to be energized and positive. I need a week at a spa and a makeover.

Anyways, so do I understand shorter tops can be flattering? OK. I'm gonna stick with basic looks, not go all high fashion. Loose enough but not swimming in it.

And try to lose some weight over the next year while working nights and becoming a real nurse-who knows, maybe I can!

Ya, I saw some nice scrub tops at Walmart, I'll try there too.

Shorter tops, as in not longer than the hip. Longer than that and it looks like your top is just too big, and makes you look larger. But, not shorter than the iliac crest...that would create an unflattering horizontal line that would make you look wider. Good luck to you on your quest to lose...I am doing the same. I know when we get slimmer we will look and feel better, and be a better example for our patients as well.

Good luck, looks like you have some great suggestions for scrubs!!!

So, you are telling her she is mentally ill, not overweight? That is bizarre. From the height and weight she gave, it sounds like losing a few pounds would not be a bad idea. Geez, she just asked how to dress to look her best. Stick to the question posted.

I'm 5'2", 150#, and was dx w obesity so i know how you're feeling about that...

i love the cherokee workwear pants w the flare leg.... they're not tight on the thigh for me at all and have some room for give.... i.e. dickies pants just made me look absurd.

I wear wrap tops and the patterned tops that don't go any lower than my hips, but are still loose enough so that i can stuff my pockets w everything imaginable and not look 15# heavier around my middle.

take some time for you-- you have to take care of yourself before taking care of others.

i'm a new nurse and just started on nights a few weeks ago... i can tell you that just by bringing my lunch of baked chicken or a salad and running my behind off i've lost 7 lbs without really trying.

you can do it and i'm sure you'll look fabulous doing it!

I calculate 5'4", 148lbs to be a BMI of 25.4..just barely in the overweight category by ~ 3lbs. Away from the "obese" category by 27 lbs..if that makes ya feel any better :)

Anyway - I just bought a ton of new scrubs recently. I didn't really care for the urbane scrubs pants but I really like their tops. They are shorter fitting and I think more flattering. Some of the Dickies tops looked like tents and for the ones I did buy I had to go down a size. I also like wearing the short sleeve tees with a slimmer vest (love more pockets!) for pants I got the flare leg draw string landau and they seem to fit me pretty good (I AM in the obese category! )

You don't sound very fat to me. You actually sound thinner than most people at that weight.

My thoughts exactly!

Huh? :uhoh3:

Too strange! I was replying to someone's (I didn't make note of who...thought it would still be here.) post saying it sounded like she had Body Dismorphic Disorder and to get some help. The post must have been removed.

I don't have much to add here except to say: THANK GOD FOR CHICS WITH HIPS!!!!!!:devil::devil::devil:

You are not fat. You are curvy. Women are supposed to have curves. I liked cherokee for the way they fit in the curvey hip area. Also they just came out with cherokee W (for women) which are cut to flatter curvey women.
