I am fat, and not bold and beautiful fat. I'm 5'4" and 148 lbs. I wear a size 12 if it's generous, otherwise a 14. I look small (bones, arms, below knee), but my hips are 44, waist 35, bust 43. And I'm a new grad. Yes, my goal is to lose 20-30 pounds, but that's probably on hold as my stress level just continues to stay high.

SOoooo, what's the deal with scrubs for fatties? Scrubs seem to be becoming such a fashion statement, what's a girl to do?! Do short tops look better, or is it best to go traditional long and cover up the hip area? Keep it medical like you don't care, or go all out cutsey/fashion and hope fo the best?

This is a serious question. What do all the RNs (and I know there are tons) who don't look like they run 10miles every a.m. wear?

You don't sound very fat to me. You actually sound thinner than most people at that weight.

I wear hospital provided scrubs...I think the trick is to find scrubs that cover what they need to cover(ie belly and cleavage) without being too baggy, because that can look sloppy. Also, Hon, you are NOT fat...maybe a tad bit overweight but I wouldn't call 148 lbs at 5'4 fat. Don't be so hard on yourself. I think it's kind of like the shoe thing-you just have to keep trying things on until you find something that works for you...

I also have to chime in that you aren't fat by any means. You might not be where you want to be weightwise but that isn't fat for your height. I'd like to lose about 15 lb also, so good luck! i am trying to find a way to stick to a diet/exercise program. As a student and interning this summer it is really hard....

you aren't fat.

I like unisex scrubs. I am there to work not walk a runway plus I hate to iron, as long as you hang them right from the dryer - they are good.

You are not fat. You are curvy. Women are supposed to have curves. I liked cherokee for the way they fit in the curvey hip area. Also they just came out with cherokee W (for women) which are cut to flatter curvey women.

Okay, that's depressing. I do not consider myself fat, just a little out of shape and overweight. I am 5'4" and 147# and have lost 15# since graduation... You are NOT fat, but I find that fitting (not baggy and not tight) scrub pants and shorter tops help to show your true weight, and do not add to your curves. Hope this helps. Best wishes on weight loss- it's a challenge.

Hey,

i found myself in the same boat. I just ordered and received my scrubs from aviatiorscrubs.com Not only do I like the pockets and such available but they will send a set and you can try them on and send the back with measurements and they will make them to fit. I love the heavier weight fabric to. It softens after washing and are more durable and you dont see the panties through them!

good luck

Urbane Scrubs seem to fit nicely, and I have more in the pants area than I previously did. They are not something you wear with short scrub tops, however. I find that if I wear a top with a tieback it makes me look slimmer.

Ok now ... there's one thing you DO not do, is wear a top with string ties in the back to your pre employee drug test, even if you just got off work the night before. Seriously, the strings can tickle your butt, causing you to drop the cup in the blue watered toilet and no, you can't fish it out. You gotta get your britches back on and ask for another darn cup and show the lady why. It's embarrassing!

Hi...I'm 5'6", 165#...I find the Landau elastic waist scrub pant with the sewn in crease down the front of the leg comfortable and flattering...try them on though - the actual waist size can vary quite a bit even though you try the same size pant on. I wear them with the v-neck top with two front pockets at the bottom. Don't tuck the top in (you can after you lose a little weight - they will keep your pants from feeling too loose and delay having to buy new pants), and get a size that will allow good movement, but just skims the body. The v-neck and the long line of the untucked top provide a slimming vertical line (you can wear a t-shirt underneath if the v is too low on your chest - this also draws the eye up to your face, and away from your larger midsection). Make sure to buy your pant long enough...too short pants make you look short and wide - Landau comes in longer length that you can hem to the perfect length for you.) Also, if you have a choice of color...all one color and darker colors are the most slimming way to go. I even have worn all black - sounds somber, but looks rather smart, and draws the eye to your face & hair (snazzy looking hair, cute little earrings, and well done makeup also draw the eye away from your trouble spots).
