I am pretty upset I just found out I was chosen as an alternate for nursing school. I do not have a back up plan and I am pretty upset. I really want to go, but I don't know what to think. Is it as upsetting as I feel? Has anyone who has been admitted into nursing school been an alternate?

My God! to be chosen is the goal, isn't it????

Yes, but I am not in! I only get in if someone else does not go!!! I am not definitely in!

Time to celebrate! The wait is over. You know, people get in to other schools, quit, get married, get divorced, move and get pregnant; there could be so many reasons. Sounds like someone turned it down for whatever reason. So, no problem. Congrats.

Sounds like their back up plan for an empty chair. Don't know where you are going to school, but wouldn't worry about being an alternate. If you get in, great. Here we wait on a list, and wait and wait etc. So just hang on and if you do get in, just enjoy it and go for it.

I was an alternate and was called in on the last day before classes started. I had to miss first clinical because I did not have my PPD done. What a crazy way to start. Now I am an RN, hang in there, it can happen.

Thanks guys! I am trying to stop crying. I have worked hard on pre reqs and I have been waiting to hear from school. Then I hear you are on a list. UGH! I guess I am just a worrier and this is just stressful for someone like me. I like to know the pan for sure. You know? Waitingforthedream...that was helpful!!!

At the bsn program that I ended up not going to, 8 alternates got picked.... a lot of people backed out at the last minute for various reasons.

You weren't rejected. If you are high on the list, you might get in the class. In some schools, those picked as alternates one year, get accepted the following year, if they don't get a seat as an alternate. So cross your fingers that some who were selected will change their minds and give you that chance. And congratulations on being selected as an alternate.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes me feel GREAT! I am happy to read these entries! I re-read the FAQs for the school and it states that they place a percentage of the qualified applicants on the alternate list. So, that means not everyone who is quaified is on the list. We were chosen as alternates.

Yes, stop crying! It will give you nothing but a headache. In is in, however it comes about. All the red tape and shifting around the schools do, doesn't count, for you, getting in and getting to the career you want, is the prize. The whole process is stressful imo. The pre-req's; the waiting; the worrying. Reminds me of Basic training in the Army. Hurry up! and wait! Hang in there and don't let stress beat you up.

The school I applied for is really competitve but they said the usually take 10 or alternates out of the 55 they let in. I got in, but if I was on the wait list I wouldnt be too worried about it...GOOD LUCK!
