Just saying...after having experience with bedside nursing, I'm GLAD I had to take all the "bogus" classes. Sure, you learn things along the way, but don't you want to fully know in depth why you're giving medications you are and doing procedures you are, and how/why they work, etc.? I wouldn't feel safe not knowing what I do, all thanks to nursing SCHOOL...

Unlikely. I think this was a Hit-and-Run kind of thread. One Post Wonder.

I was just thinking, in reading this, about all the hoopla surrounding the degrees involved in nursing. The ones asking whether ADN is enough....no, it needs to be a minimum of BSN....no, we should be looking at MSN as entry-level.

And here we have the question as to whether someone can....y'know.....just do OTJ training. It's just the same as a degree in nursing if the person who is teaching you doesn't make you do any "bogus stuff"....right?

I should have stayed in bed today.

Sometimes derailing a thread is the very best thing you can do for it!

Anyone know of any opportunities abroad to become a nurse thru apprenticeship rather than thru traditional education?

(I'm fed up with looking for accelerated programs, having to meet bogus requirements, etc. I'd rather just do on-the-job training for 3/4 the pay in some other country. Anyone know of anything like this?)

I just can't... Is this real life?

Aw hell, why not skip medical school altogether in favor of watching reruns of Doogie Hauser, MD??

Maybe make a plaque for the wall "All I Ever Really Needed to Know about Medicine I Learned from House".

What say?

I don't think nursing is one of those professions that you can learn on the job without any types of education. You can start a business, or open up a restaurant without a college degree, but not any medical professions I am aware of. Good luck if you find one.

"You must be joking, Mr. Feynman."

You might be able to find one...but you'd never be able to work in the US with it.

On the job training.. while earning 3/4 the pay. Why didn't I think of that?

What...I don't...how...

I honestly have no response to OP, and that is highly unusual for me. Yep, it's the end of the world as we know it.
