BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Also has anyone heard from BCIT on their application yet? I'm starting to get close to obsessively checking my emails everyday hoping for an update on short-listed applicants..

Nothing yet! I'm hoping for either this week or next week. From the January 2018 intake's discussion post, it looked like people were starting were getting updates in the first week of October.

Yes hopefully! It's strange how there's still not that much discussion on this page.. I check every few days and the number of views have been increasing but no new comments. Does anyone know how many people applied for the January 2019 intake?

You have a very competitive application as well! Regardless of whether or not volunteering is strongly looked at, I think mentioning the hospital ER will look amazing for handling fast-paced, stressful environments. And yes, this is my first time applying so I'm super nervous! What about you?

I'm hoping it's enough compared to others applying with full degrees already haha. Yes this is my first time applying at BCIT. I'm also waiting to hear back from Kwantlen about January but I'm much rather go to BCIT, heard a lot of good things about their nursing program.

We should be getting an email soon though! So let's just hang tight! :)

Am I the only one here who can't wait for the email, but feeling terrified about the result?

You're not the only one lmao

I definitely have heart palpitations every time I open my email....

Totally should have said this earlier but good luck everyone! It's so nerve-wracking waiting for the news, good or bad.

Does anyone have an idea when they're gonna email us about the results?

Last January intake was notified on October 4th about being short listed so hoping by next week sometime!

Does anyone know if there is a list of possible topics the non-cognitive questionnaire will cover (besides topics mentioned in previous posts) or do applicants only have access to that once short-listed?
