BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Also, I read on previous forums that near the end of applicant selection people can also be on a waitlist or holdlist? Does anyone know the difference between these two and how likely the chances are of getting accepted if put on this list?

Does anyone have an idea what the competative GPA is for this year? Ps. lowkey anxious for the email lmao

The non-cognitive questionnaire after you get shortlisted is based on the CRNBC standards. Try to apply the standards in your volunteer/work experiences. :)

Eek! Applied for January 2019. Have a BA in Political Science, am a certified Emergency Medical Responder, and work experience as an optometric assistant. Feeling pretty nervous as everyone seems to have a lot of great experience up their sleeves and have been waiting to get into a nursing program for a couple of years now! Good luck all! :-)

I was put on the waitlist for the last term and never got in. They emailed me at the end of August and waived my fee and transferred my application to the January 2019 intake... which I'm not really sure what that means. Anyways, if you get placed on waitlist they will not let you know how many are on the list or where you are on it.

Do you mind sharing what you applied with? :)

Ahh, I see. Maybe I'll email admissions because I'm still really confused about the hold vs waitlist! I've also heard that some people who have applied previously with a strong application can get accepted immediately, meaning they don't have to repeat the online questionnaire. I'm assuming this is not done for any new applicants?

I'm not sure how much the intake average fluctuates for each application process, but I've been told from multiple advisors at BCIT that you should have at least a 3.0 GPA and I'm assuming a 3.5+ would be competitive? I wonder whether they base it heavily only on your pre-req GPA or if they strongly consider your cGPA as well

Sure! I'm not exactly sure what my gpa is. I finished BCITs Cardiology Technology program and have worked as an ECG tech. I also have a lot of random post secondary credits and am in my fourth year of a health sciences degree. I have volunteer experience at the Children's Hospital. Other than that, I wrote about my job as a lab tech in Fort McMurray and a customer experience job I had.

Apparently rejection emails are being sent out... so nervous!

Good luck everyone
