BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Absolutely! To get this far is definitely something to be proud of. And I definitely didn't mean to come off rude or anything. I was just relaying what the advisors told me to do regarding both intakes!

No worries...It was just a friendly discussion. We're not certain about anything so let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

If you wanted to be also considered for January, wouldn't you have applied for January? Jan and April have the same deadline and we are unable to apply for both at the same time. So advisors have told us to apply for Jan and mention you want to be considered for April if you don't get in for Jan.

Strange! I would think that it would almost be common sense that if you aren't accepted for the intake you applied for, then of course you'd want to be considered for the next one. Aren't we all really wanting to get into the program? I guess they want to know in case people have some other commitment that would prevent them from wanting to start during a different intake. But they almost should have let us all know to express that desire in our application - I would have said I'd like to be consider for any other option as well haha. I applied for the April :) Have any April applicants heard anything yet? Wishing the best of luck to all of us who are waiting to hear! Try to enjoy the weekend :)

How should I state that I want to be considered for the April intake as well now? Update my questionnaire or email the admissions department?

I would like to be considered for April too and I didn't state it anywhere but I feel like it might be too late now cause they have probably already made their decisions and just haven't informed everyone yet. I'm hoping it's a given that if we don't get accepted for Jan that we would also like to be considered for April

Honestly, like mentioned above by @idontknowxxxx, I think it's probably obvious we all really want to get in, so they might just automatically push you over to April if you have a strong application or you make the holdlist. But who knows, maybe write them an email?

I emailed them a while ago asking how the waitlist gets moved over to the next intake and I got this response:

"Applicants who are successful in getting a position on the January waitlist, but are not offered a seat will be considered for the April intake."

So I assume when you're on the January waitlist you're automatically considered for the April intake though obviously only the competitive applicants and top spots get offered a seat.

Thanks for the info!

When I got accepted for the April intake, i found out February 6th. The January intake people find out soon, but the April intake finds out next year... It was a brutal wait. If they are doing it the same as the did for my cohort, April people expect to find out around february!

Thank you for the info! When you applied did they tell you in your short list letter that you would know your final status by October 31st? By the sounds of it, they have told both the January and April applicants this year that everyone should know their final status by then. Very interesting!! I suppose it differs for those who get wait-listed, as it depends on people dropping the program as well...time will tell I guess!

any update on that person who emailed admissions about whether or not the acceptances have all been given out??

Specializes in Emergency.

I read that some people mentioned that they wanted to be considered for the April intake as well in the empty box we had to fill in during the initial application process.

I regret opening this forum, my anxiety is up to my neck LOL.
