  1. When I got accepted for the April intake, i found out February 6th. The January intake people find out soon, but the April intake finds out next year... It was a brutal wait. If they are doing it the same as the did for my cohort, April people expect to find out around february!
  2. I believe they mainly look at your pre req GPA. But at the same time if you did horribly in other courses or your degree then they would take that into account as well if it was between you and a similar applicant.
  3. you can still apply before getting a position. I got the jobs 2 or 3 months after I applied and I emailed BCIT about how I could include that experience and they said I could submit a letter outlining my job responsibilities and they took that into consideration.
  4. The only prior experience I had was volunteering. I recommended both companies to so many prospective nursing students they are phenomenal.
  5. developmental disabilities*
  6. I worked for nurse next door and Spectrum Society for community Living. I recommend spectrum out of the two, I learned how to administer meds, do bed baths, bathe clients in tubs, feed and administer meds with clients that had G tubes, learned how to use wheelchairs and manual sealing lifts etc. They trained me for all of that on the job, I was soooo thankful when I found it! Such an amazing company, and you are caring for older adults with developmental experience. You could not gain better experience, I highly recommend!
  7. also do libs 7001 and 7002! Im so thankful I did those because I have one less course to do next semester. It will save you so much stress in the program
  8. Hey guys!! I am currently in the BCIT April intake and its so refreshing to see how many people are working hard to get in. My biggest advice would be to not only do the pre reqs but doing other courses to gain credits. Most get in with degrees that is true. I had only 47 credits but got in. What also factored in me getting in was working as a caregiver at two companies, having a high GPA, and even though they say they don't count volunteer experience in the point system they do consider it... if they have two similar applicants, your volunteering will be what sets you apart and gets you in. I lied, my biggest advice is to keep working hard to get in. I got in on my second try and I am so thankful I did. I had to work so much harder and if I got in with the minimal experience i had the first time I would not have survived the program. Because of my work experience and extra post secondary experience I feel more prepared for the program. So even if you don't get in the first time, keep working to improve. They will take into account previous applications and note down how much you improved. DONT GIVE UP!!! It is very competitive but completely possible to get in if you truly want it and work hard for it. It is so rewarding receiving your acceptance and I think of that moment often :)
  9. I remember feeling this way a few months ago. I got in for the April intake and I'm so excited! Hard work pays off and I wish you all the best!! :) there is light at the end of the tunnel!
  10. [sOUNDCLOUD][/sOUNDCLOUD]You should make a forum for Sep 2018 applicants so you guys can all help each other cause no one will look in this forum since it's for April!
  11. That's awesome!!! Either way you start nursing school this year! I'm not sure how the wait list works you probably just have to wait and that's it
  12. I applied with 47 credits. 350 hours volunteering at a care home, 200 at a hospital. I got two health care jobs at nurse next door and spectrum society where I got amazing experience with meds, personal care, and a lot of things related to nursing. I included two references from one from the hospital and one from the professor. My gpa was high they said, I think 3.6 or above. I did the two libs courses as well and also included that I started a project at the hospital I worked at in the NICU. I improved a lot from my first application and that is what they look for
  13. Sorry the group is called " bcit nursing April 2018" my bad!
  14. Congrats to everyone that got in! For those that didn't don't give up. This was my second time applying. I asked what I needed to work on and I worked on everything bcit nursing told me to and I believe that is why I got in. Thy want to see you improve, don't apply again with no change!
