BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Wait-listed people wait a little longer till they get a spot I guess. As it was mentioned earlier everyone will find out by next week. Most schools (and BCIT I hope) send offers in alphabetical order.

I'm guessing they don't send out updates on the weekend so we have to wait for Monday?

As far as I know, if you mentioned you wanted to be considered for both. You will get considered. And I think that's fair? If we don't get in for January obviously we want another chance for April.

But I also understand where you're coming from.

What about April applicants though? Will they be considered for Jan if they mentioned that they wanted to be considered? Doesn't look fair to me unless they let Jan applicants in for April and put April applicants on Sep hold list, which doesn't make sense to me.

I'm assuming so which sucks because I know it's going to be constantly on our minds for the next two days. I also really hope they don't slowly send out the results all the way until the 31st; it's already been torture waiting these last few months.

If you wanted to be also considered for January, wouldn't you have applied for January? Jan and April have the same deadline and we are unable to apply for both at the same time. So advisors have told us to apply for Jan and mention you want to be considered for April if you don't get in for Jan.

My friend also applied for April last year and got put on the Holdlist for September, the pattern seems to be that you have to reapply every two intakes if you get on the hold list

I wonder why they restrict applicants to apply to one semester then if requesting to get considered for the next semester is an option. I personally preferred to start in April when I applied, but I didn't mind starting in January either.

Wait so is it too late to tell the department I want to be considered for April if I don't get into Jan?

I totally get what you're saying. I honestly think they should split the intakes up so it's not so confusing and can be two separate processes. But it is what it is, and we just have to anxiously wait :(

I think we need to stay away from this forum till after the weekend, otherwise it'll make us more anxious. I think, we've all been qualified enough to come this far and whether we get in or not we should be proud of ourselves for what we've been doing.

Absolutely! To get this far is definitely something to be proud of. And I definitely didn't mean to come off rude or anything. I was just relaying what the advisors told me to do regarding both intakes!
