For those of you already out there working, what good/ bad things have you heard about each? How do the benefits stack up? I've looked at Banner's online and there seems to be many choices, but are also kind of expensive for a family.
Do any of you work at Chandler Regional? What do you think of the working environment, management, etc? I've heard there have been a lot of call-off's lately b/c they're overstaffed...

Banner has better pay.
CHW has better benefits regarding retirement (includes a pension).
Some CHW hospitals may be overstaffed in some units, but not all. CHW does a lot to make sure their employees are happy.
Any certain areas you're looking at working in?
Good luck to you!

I've worked for Banner (as an extern) and have now just accepted a position at Chandler Regional (as a new grad). I have friends who work for both companies as well. One of the main deciding factors for me in taking the job at CR was the pension. I'm starting my career late in life and the need to contribute as much as I can to a retirement account was one of the factors for me to return to work. I have friends who work at CHW and they've been picking up an extra shift a week, so I guess it depends on what area you work in whether or not you're called off. Both companies treat their employees fairly well, Banner does have a lot more going for it in terms of new grad training. They both pay basically the same too. I guess it just has to do with what you're looking for. I don't think you can go wrong with either company, good luck.

Thanks for your replies! I've interviewed at a few different facilities, and have gotten positive feedback from them. I'll be going into Telemetry, working night shift. I'm really looking for a supportive, team environment, where the new grads aren't "fed to the wolves" so to speak. A huge plus for me is the part-time option at CHW. I have young children, and really want to be there for them as much as possible. I did the night shift for my preceptorship and although I like the shift, I'm finding it tough to juggle seeing my family and trying to get adequate sleep, even though the kids are at sitters while I'm sleeping during the day.
I've heard good and bad about the Tele depts in the E. Valley hosps, so I'm just trying to sift through all the info to find the best fit for me.
Thanks again for your replies! I hope I'm not offending anyone by posting these types of questions...:)

Will they hire you part time at CHW? I tried to get part time all over the place as a new grad and it was unheard of? If you haven't talked with them face to face about that, you might want to.
CHW has an out of this world pension plan if retirement is one of your biggie considerations. And health insurance, dental, vision, is all free for you AND YOUR ENTIRE family. Can't beat that! I think at Banner you are free but you pay for your family...
Congratulations to you on graduating!:balloons:

Definitely agree with the above poster, your orientation will be a full-time position, and highly recommend full-time work when you first start your career as there is so much for you to learn. Trying to do tele on a part-time basis will be quite hard on you for all that you do need to master that you did not have while you were a student.
Suggest that you actually speak to the manager about a part-time position and if it is available to you as a new grad, may not be.

I have details about their plan in an Adobe Acrobat Reader document but I can't figure out how to post it here. If you wish, you can send me your email via personal message on this site and I'll send it to you! just PM me!
